Scripters Support Group Chat Lag
We think this will be resolved in an upcoming release. If it's not, please reopen and ping me.
thanks Today a delay of 1:49 in Jazz Enthusiasts:
[17:03] Bibi Book: Hi! I cannot see you any longer. Thought there would be a live concert [17:04] Ankari Holder: there was at 3pm [17:04] Bibi Book: [16:50] Ankari Holder: Voice (myself) & piano (David) jazz duet at Hot Sax Jazz Club! [17:05] Bibi Book: came in a few minutes ago in Jazz Enthusiasts [17:05] Ankari Holder: O__o wtf [17:05] Ankari Holder: [15:01] Ankari Holder: Voice (myself) & piano (David) jazz duet at Hot Sax Jazz Club! [17:06] Ankari Holder: well i'm sorry about that... it wasn't on my end, though :S [17:06] Bibi Book: Hmm.. great. Better post the time instead of "now", if SL needs nearly two hours to deliver [17:06] Ankari Holder: yes, wtf. [17:06] Bibi Book: strange: when you posted it, I have not been online [17:07] Ankari Holder: thanks for telling me. [17:07] Ankari Holder: :S [17:07] Bibi Book: can I post this conversation to jira bug? [17:07] Ankari Holder: of course Fix Pending is still considered open.
For instance you can still vote on it. this Started March 22nd
Saturday evening one of my groups started slowing down to a snail's pace (30+ minutes between posting and it showing up) Sunday It kept getting longer but for the most part posts were still going through When i woke up Monday morning it was dead, you could post all you wanted but nothing shows i have not seen anything from it i have tried to chat in it it goes (no chat error) but does not ever show this is detrimental as its the helping group for the Treasure Quest, and the only way we can help the hunters who get stuck, this is totally a show stopping problem I also get this from large groups sometimes. A few times group IM's came to me hours later as I logged in.
This is a very big problem for large groups. I teach at TUi, and our student group has more than 2600 members, and rarely seems to work, especially lately. We are highly dependent on that group to keep our students informed, and are crippled when it is down. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to this, as one group member may be unable to post, but another can. This needs to be fixed, as some groups are legitimately that large.
On the other hand, I have to wonder: how many members of these large groups are actually alts of the same person? I am not an expert on computer programming, systems engineering, digital communication, etc., but common sense tells me that the sheer number of subscribers on each of these lists has to be contributing to this problem, and many others. The number of people who are represented by 10, 15, 25 or more alts, all online at the same time has to be putting a strain on the system. Want to see this? Go to any of the popular camping spots in SL and try to interact with the majority of the campers. Want to solve this problem? Really? Require at least a token payment to establish a SL account. No need to disallow people from having alts for different purposes, but there should be some cost for this. If you want to be egalitarian about it, allow a person to have ONE free account, but charge for the creation of alts. Of course, this would mean that LL would have to verify identities, and would have to maintain identity information. I know that LL claims that they don't do that now, but they also say that they work cooperatively with law enforcement to investigate criminal activity. Obviously, if they are not now maintaining information about ISPs, etc., they will be required to do so eventually. How about acting proactively, to solve this problem now, as opposed to waiting until they are made to do so? The above is my own opinion, and not that of TUi, or any other group. This problem still persists, I belong to a group with about 1800 members, and if group im are sent out, and about 10 people of the same group are where I am, two get the im, the others won't. so it's not even "only" chat delay, group ims don't work, if you are lucky you reach 20% of all online group members... When it comes to notices it's even worse, members don't get offline messages regularly, some who are online don't get the notice either.
Aric, what upcoming release did you mean? Been a while from March to May, so there must have been one out, and still the problem is the same. |
