Linden Lab Issue ID: DEV-10835

 Description  « Hide
See those attached screenshots of the Preview window? It's usually worse than that. Every time the camera angle changes, the preview rearranges the messy portion of polygons, most of the time reaching so far as to block the view. While there's a recognizable form beneath the mess, even that form looks improperly, jaggedly shaped, as if the vertices are connecting to the wrong nearby vertices (like it were reading some kind of corrupted version of the map, except that no 24-bit sculpt map can possibly reach as far as those stray polygons!).

Reproduction of the problem, by the way, is as easy as can be, and seems consistent. I've tried it on 2 different computers with 2 different sculpt maps (and received just the same erratic vector vomit displayed around my sculpties). I then tested it on an image that doesn't register as a sculpty, and thus instead becomes a sphere. Even that sphere was a mess!

Possibly caused by VWR-2404 and therefore a duplicate of it?

Al Sonic added a comment - 16/Feb/08 06:23 PM - edited
No Harleen, it's blatantly unrelated to VWR-2404, as the "UploadsProperly" screenshot clearly proves. [Edit: This is now unlinked from that], as it's quite misleading to suggest there's any relation.

This is about the previewer going completely berserk on me, even though the sculpt map itself uploads perfectly fine.

Harke Hartnell added a comment - 16/Feb/08 08:04 PM
i second that Al, i spent hours trying to fix a sculpt when it was perfectly fine, contrary to the weird sculpt previewer.

I see the same thing, and I cannot see any relationship to VWR-2404. This is more like a rendering glitch, not a compression glitch, as changing the orientation in the previewer radically changes the distortions. The distortion only happens in the previewer, NOT the viewer. If it were compression problems it is likely the distortion would be seen in-world as well.

From an IM in First Look group:

[22:33] Gearsawe Stonecutter: umm are Sculpts previews really messed up
in the upload screen
[22:33] Ollj Oh: usually sometimes
[22:33] wakawaka Snook: yea, sice last relase
[22:34] wakawaka Snook: since
[22:34] Ollj Oh: the previewer only displays every second vertex
[22:34] Ollj Oh: and sometimes distorts alot
[22:34] Gearsawe Stonecutter: yes the every other i remember but it
looks like it has blown up on my end.
[22:35] Joe Linden: WL or RC 1.19, Gearsawe?
[22:36] Gearsawe Stonecutter: sorry WL
[22:36] Joe Linden: Ok, ty. Is it in pjira, do you know?
[22:37] Carl Omlet: You can always use the beta grid to test them
in-world for free.
[22:37] Gearsawe Stonecutter: have not checked yet. hard to find things
there sometime. check here first sometime.
[22:37] Gearsawe Stonecutter: it is fine once uploaded.
[22:37] Joe Linden: just a visual problem with preview then?
[22:37] Gearsawe Stonecutter: yes. could not tell what I was looking at.
[22:38] Gearsawe Stonecutter: like vert flying way off in space

We'll be investigating this shortly, thanks for the report!

guys, please fix this... I don't have a reliable alternative to preview my sculpts since I make them in-world, so I can't be uploading every single time without having a preview. That costs me real money.

Al Sonic added a comment - 09/Mar/08 04:53 PM
Well I see that this issue has remained to affect 1.19.1 RC as well. However, Naoki, this issue DOES have full workarounds, so no real money has to be spent; you can instead spend fake beta-grid L$ to preview it there (where many seem to forget we have a great test grid - sometimes I do too). Also, this glitch has yet to affect the main viewer.

Fixed and released in 1.19.1 RC1.
