Linden Lab Issue ID: DEV-11894

 Description  « Hide
When I open a script to edit it, since getting the latest WindLight, I get this strangely distorted version of the edit window, with all the widgets out of place and a vertically blurred grey area a bit to the side. The main way I've found so far to get out of it is by "dragging" the orange bit normally found at the lower right, except it isn't really dragging because it restores it to a normal-looking but very small script editing window.

It doesn't seem to happen with notecards, and I think doesn't occur when you already have a script edit window open. The picture will demonstrate better than I could ever describe it, of course.

One thing that might be worth noting if this isn't happening for all WL users, is my somewhat ancient OpenGL version. No, it doesn't seem to be something I can update, with this similarly ancient video card.

This seems to affect more than just the script editor window. I'm generalizing this issue and linking dupes here.
~ McCabe

The key to triggering the bug on demand is to have a like-typed window minimized. It's been happening for months and isn't WindLight specific.

Repro on 1.19.0 (80044):

  • open a notecard and minimize
  • keep opening and minimizing notecards

Result:
One notecard (usually the second or third) will eventually open where the window will be distorted

I've since noticed that I momentarily see a similar effect when viewing textures. That window seems to be straightened out as soon as the window is told how large the texture is and resizes itself, though.

Randall Lovenkraft added a comment - 15/Feb/08 12:09 AM
One afterthought about my screenshot there: I did have two script windows open when I took that. No duplication of the window is involved in this bug.

Randall Lovenkraft added a comment - 15/Feb/08 05:21 AM
I'm now thinking, it seems to only happen when there are other script windows already opened, but all minimized.

McCabe Maxsted added a comment - 16/Feb/08 12:23 PM
This affects:
  • Script editor window
  • Notecards
  • Textures that are minimized after being sent.

Workaround:

  • Resize by dragging the orange corner.

Added the repro and changed the affected versions since it's been a bug for many months on all viewers.

I have the same issue in the release candidate 1.19.1. Can't open or create notecards at all since the last update.

CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 2.80 Ghz
Memory: 3 gig
OS: XP Media center 32 bit
Graphics Card: NVidia GEForce 8800 GTS

This issue is still occuring with the new 1.19.1.1 version.

Not being able to open notecards or textures is a showstopper for this release.

At first I thought it was "just SL problems" but it's been a consistent issue all week and consistently fixed everytime I logged OUT of the release candidate and back into the standard candidate.

Calling this a "normal" priority is missing the boat for anyone building or communicating within the SL environment.

Appears fixed in 1.19.1 RC2.

I have the exact same issue. The notecards appear as mashed up graphics.

It's only an issue for me in the Release Candidate version 1.19.1 (4) - I can still read notecards in the beta.

I've tried to search this place for a way to resolve it without luck...I will report it to LL and see if that helps.
-And check back here to see if any of you know how to fix it !

Thanks.

I had this problem start earlier today where my notecards (not script windows) were squashed and showing only the scroll bar, the close X, resize corner, and sometimes the buttons but not always. No text, it was all scrunched like the middle image up there.

Here's how I fixed it.

Checked the Knowledge Base for "uninstall"
https://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=4417

Followed those steps.

Then I went back to the folder where the cache was.
Open c:\Documents and Settings(yourusername)\Application Data\Second Life

Then moved the entire contents of that Second Life folder to a new folder I made on my desktop.

Rebooted, reinstalled the current viewer
Logged back in, my notecards are working once again.

A repro from VWR-10002:

In following process, window opens strangely. (show attached image)

1. Prepare 3 notes in your inventory. (suppose Note-A, Note-B and Note-C)
2. Start with all 3 notes closed.
3. Select Note-A and Note-B.
4. Right click and select "Open" in the menu to open these Notes in one window.
5. Minimize the sub-window for these Notes.
6. Open Note-C from your inventory.

To revert.
Select Note-C and other Note (or Script), and "Open" from menu.

Not only Notes but Scripts are also cause this issue.
I tested only in 1.21 client.

i'm wondering if we have more than one bug here. i can repro McCabes steps above - and that causes a missing window. but i never see distorted windows. is there a specific repro to get distorted windows?
