Also seen over last few days with 1.19.0 (79185) windlight on Mac
Specifically, it's happening repeatedly with SL Mentors group. Also seen with Council of Wyrms Message is something like 'Error starting chat session with <groupname> Please try again later" I'll write down the message next time ! On these occasions it was someone else started the chat, not myself. On linux (Windlight Viewer 1.19.0 (79185)), the group chat window opens, but it doesn't show the name of the group but the name of the one who started the chat.
Not sure if it happens with all groups, noticed it only once. I also receive lots of error messages from groupchats. Especially the large groups like SLM and MM. When others start a message in the groupchat, I often see something like "Error starting group message.....". Also posting anything in those groups often result in no response at all or it takes up to two minutes before anything happens. This started since version RC 1.19.0 and also with the RC 1.19.0.1.
The precise error message, and oddly enough it does not necessarily occur on the first avatar's opening message into the channel, is :
Error starting a new chat session with Second Life Mentor. (Or for whatever group it happens to be, but it's usually the Mentor group to date.) The message appears in a pop up box with an 'OK' button to dismiss it. Importing this for further investigation, also see SVC-1509.
This has been happening routinely as well under 1.19.0(2).
In my recent sessions under stated viewer, no group IMs have been possible at all. Earlier runs resulted in intermittent failures but there seems to be some additive effect (a memory leak maybe?) and subsequent runs become more and more unbearable. Possibly related, Friends list shows as "waiting" (or whatever the standard text is) – this is the first time in recent memory that I've felt compelled to return to the Release version due to functional problems. Very hard to repro (except that they all happen with great regularity in all versions of 1.19.0 RC. Using 1.18.5(3) seems to resolve nearly all, which I had been ascribing to other machine problems up until returning to the Release viewer. I mention this only because it might somehow be related: I found that mouse-alt-ctrl-shift chords for camera control were behaving strangely under the RC, and that the "stickiness" I experienced was carrying over to other programs that usually have not been problematic until now. Problems seemed to alleviate at least somewhat after reboot. For ex.: Playing Zoo Tycoon is practically impossible if SL RC has been run before playing. SysDetails : WinXP Home SP2; ATI Radeon 9700 Pro gfx card. Following details are copied from a session under the viewer mentioned in the header lines: Second Life 1.18.5 (3) Nov 28 2007 13:59:53 (Second Life Release) You are at 272603.6, 256474.6, 263.0 in Romero located at sim982.agni.lindenlab.com (8.4.129.132:12035) CPU: Intel Pentium 4 Northwood (3049 MHz) Same for me - either errors starting group chats, or the name of the initiator is coming up rather than the group name in the communication box. noticed this with Windlight 1.19.0 (80044) . The error opening group chat also with earlier versions cannot remember if the same is true of the initiator name rather than the group name being shown.
Same issue, group chats with larger groups getting error messages then closing spontaneously. Did not happen before I installed this version of Windlight, but maybe that's coincidence, the time of the month, the location of the moon in relation to venus? Heh.
Second Life 1.19.0 (80044) Feb 15 2008 16:46:46 (Second Life WindLight) You are at 257601.2, 262870.8, 27.7 in Clearwing located at sim5516.agni.lindenlab.com (8.2.34.72:13005) CPU: Intel Pentium 4 Northwood (1997 MHz) "Same issue, group chats with larger groups getting error messages then closing spontaneously."
Has made group chat nigh unusable. Second Life 1.19.0 (80044) Just want to confirm that this is still there in RC3 - I just got it in 1.19.0 (3)
This also happens to me when using Dazzle.
Second Life 1.19.0 (80267) Feb 19 2008 12:13:51 (Second Life First Look Dazzle) CPU: AMD K7 (Unknown model) (1243 MHz) A group chat error with a fix version? Man, that made me giggle removing that bit of misinformation
Mee to since V 1.19.0.
I feel that it is related to how many of the group are on line. A doomsday timer is timing out before it can get a list of Who's On Line. That is why it works some times but not others and is really bad with Mentor Group Chat. Most likely a dupe of SVC-1509 – please see that, we'll followup there. And it's not viewer-specific.
I have experienced the same issue since downloading version 1.19.0 (5) Feb 28 2008 of the viewer in the Mental Mentors group.
I think it is getting much much worse. For me it is happening to all my groups, regardless of size of group, regardless of viewer. Nearly all the time. Forget trying to build anything, script anything, play anything like slingo, etc. My groups are maxed. That means I have 25 groups that are constantly spamming me with these error messages. Last night I went through 10 minutes of sitting unable to do a thing but click the stupid "ok" button because apparently a couple of the groups had lively conversations going on... I have no Idea what about. Ended up logging and going to something else. I cannot start a chat in a group other than the one I own, and that only part of the time, I cannot do my job as a dancer as I cannot maintain the window to watch for VIPs. It started out as occasional, it has grown worse for me over the last couple of weeks. They are actually calling some instances of this resolved???
Resolving and re openning
This issue is FAR from resolved!!
I have been dealing with it for weeks and it has rendered more than half of my groups useless. groups that rely on soley the chat program to communicate with one another. Why isnt this being looked at still???????? It was not resolved as fixed, it was resolved as a duplicate of SVC-1509, which is being worked on.

I think it happened with another group i'm in but it flashed on the screen so quick I never got a chance to see what group it was.
