Can you provide more info about what you were expecting? For example: which version were you on, what version were you expecting to be updated to? Did you get an error?
Hi rob, sorry i didnt get back to this. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to setup jira to email me when someone replies to a ticket grrr.
anyhow, its still broken, but i'll just have to assume its a local issue for some people (i have heard of other people on mac having this problem). Here is a screenshot of the failure. It appears to happen during "cleanup"
It leaves a SecondLifeUpdate_(randomstring)/SecondLife.dmg in my trash and mounted. For what its worth, the "FirstLook" client also exhibits this behaviour.
*WORKAROUND* Instead of going to the website and re-downloading the entire file, you can just use the file it downloaded... 1. Eject the broken Second Life XXXX mounted disk image. Enjoy not re-downloading 70MB ~tommy FWIW, a similar problem. First try to use the auto update failed - w/o the cleanup alert present. After a restart and a day later I repeated the auto update and it failed - still no clean up alert. The dmg was still mounted so I completed the update manually by dragging the files.
I found I could not dismount or eject the updater image; many tries attempted before giving up and restarting. The new (115) SL client seems to operate normally. The auto updater hasn't worked for me for about a month. It might just be coincidence, but this bug started happening around the time that I installed multiple versions of the viewer (standard, Beta, and First Look Voice). I don't know if it is because the updater is confused about which version to update, but that would be my guess.
Whatever Linden Labs payed to set up the JIRA site, it was too much. This site really, really sucks, and it is virtually impossible to navigate. It's strange how easy it is to navigate a site that is set up to sell things, but as soon as it is time to report a bug or complain the user needs a degree in computer science just to log-in. Ironton Furse - Sorry that JIRA's so confusing - your description of JIRA is probably more true than you realize! The people that wrote JIRA market it as a communication system for a team of programmers, and according the marketers, LL uses JIRA for everything internal. I doubt the authors thought anyone would use JIRA as a public bug reporting system, and it seems that LL didn't streamline things for non-techies who don't need JIRA's features - so that really shows.
Anyway, to get to the point, if you have more trouble with JIRA, feel free to IM me in-world and I'll try to help. I played my hunch, and deleted the standard and beta viewers, before I tried to update the Voice First Look viewer today, but the updater still failed.
(I'm on a 3.2 Ghz mac, running OSX 10.4.10) Celierra Darling - thanks for the quick response. Since this site is already set up, my advice might be coming a bit late, but Yahoo!Answers has an interface which would work well for this site. As a question is being typed on Y!A, the computer searches the database for the keywords of the question and displays questions with similar keywords, in order to avoid the same question being asked multiple times. It also suggests categories based on the keywords, after the question is written, in order to avoid mis-categorization. Auto update worked correctly on my macBook Pro (macos X).
Closing it : Fixed. @Celierra Darling : JIRA is the most user-friendly bugreport tool i ever seen. Don't expect non-techy friendly bugreport tool before ... mmm ... never ? work now, thanks for fixing it
