 Description  « Hide
Do not auto-activate groups automatically on joining. This can lead to embarrassment when in company, suggesting to someone you are reading their profile, or you join a group that you would rather not reveal to that gathering of friends. I know that group titles can be hidden, but to have to turn that on and off each time I want to join a group is tedious, when the server could just not auto-activate newly joined groups. This auto-activation serves little purpose after someone joins their first group, which usually happens on Orientation Island.

Or maybe Join (which does not auto-activate) Decline and Activate (which joins and activates) buttons.

The feature of auto-activating a group you join is used to exploit newbies as advertising space. A newbie visits a club of some sort, and the owner invites them to the "VIP" group. The newbie clicks "join", and they've got "CLUB ___ VIP" stuck above their head until they learn how to change their active group.

@Harleen, I suspect your suggestion would lead to confusion among noobs, do I join or do I activate my membership?

McCabe Maxsted added a comment - 19/Jan/08 05:58 PM
My land is build for group members only, so it's nice to have it auto-activate for people who want to be able to rez things right away; it's less confusing for people. It would be really nice if blue popups somehow let us use checkboxes, as checkbox for "Activate Group On Joining" would be an ideal implementation of this.
