Linden Lab Issue ID: DEV-9156

 Description  « Hide
A very personal IM sent to myself and others was forwarded to other people in Second Life. An apology from the person followed stating it was an error she did not commit. The IMs sat side by side on my Instant Message tab. Screen shot attached.

Thanks for your report, I reuploaded your screenshot as a friendlier JPG (smaller filesize and it has a thumbnail preview) file. I've also linked it to seemingly related issues. We need a way to step-by-step reproduce this problem so we can track it down, so if you figure a way to make this happen reliably, please don't hesitate to let us know.

If you can, find out if this person is using a DLink DWA542 Wireless <<N>> network card. I had this problem frequently when using this card, because it tries to speedboost by using two streams and two aerials.

The driver doesn't always get it right, and when it doesn't you get the same packet of data - usually an IM but it can happen in chat as well - appearing twice.

I used to have that and had to keep apologising to people for being my own echo. The problem started the day I fitted the DWA-542 and since I removed it I've never had it occur since.

Edit: It also doesn't seem to occur on the DWA542 when you're using it with a router that is not <<N>> capable. A test machine I have shows the problem with an <<N>> protocol wifi router, but doesn't show it with a <<G>> or B/G protocol router.

This could be a similar issue to the one where chat is being repeated in IM and Group Chat, NOT In seperate IM boxes but just appears twice in the same box.
