Having the same problem as Bug as Einsman Schlegel (VWR-3958) and VWR-3959.

There are concentric black circles around the sky making a bullseye if you pan the camera straight up.

NVIDA GeForce 8800 GT

yuji ewing added a comment - 22/Dec/07 01:26 AM - edited
Black ring appearing in the sky with sky setting set to mid to high, no problem with sky set to low.

update : no problem with the sky when sky detail set to step 1-5 (low), step 10 (mid setting range) and step 14 (high setting range)

nvidia 8800GTS driver 129.25 windows vista 32 bits

Marcus Moomintoog added a comment - 22/Dec/07 03:08 AM
Having the same problems myself but this only started happening on the latest version which I just downloaded 1.18.6 (76116) Dec 19 2007. Have been running graphics on ultra since I first ran windlight. My graphics card is a 8500GT 512MB. I have updated drivers and still no difference.

WarKirby Magojiro added a comment - 22/Dec/07 04:09 AM
Likewise. Radeon X1800XT

Works fine if I lower sky detail to medium, though.

Lyssa Varun added a comment - 22/Dec/07 04:17 AM
I'm also seeing this too but I had to reduce my sky mesh detail to low to get rid of it (Radeon X1300 w/256 @ 1600x1200 windowed).

Ahh, it's not a bug, it's a feature ... they are planning to introduce psychedelic drugs to SL

Seen them here too on 76116, btw.

Altered the title to help searches as people are still creating duplicates of this.

I'm seeing this on my Nvidia GeForce 7900 GT in SLi, Forceware 163.76, Windows XP

Have also had these appear on my NVidia 8500GT card since new update. previously not seen.. Sky set to mid position in preferences. All drivers latest install, checked with AMD today. windows XP.

Still there in latest iteration of the viewer (76453) no change, anything higher than low sky and the bands are there. Would be lovely to see full feature of these superb skies.

Shows how adjusting the sky detail affects the amount of "ringing"

Einsman Schlegel added a comment - 22/Dec/07 09:33 AM
Lowering the Atmospheric Details is only a temporary fix. It should be fixed to run at high details again and not brushed off. This is a critical bug because it affects the experiences of Second Life.

I'm getting this too using both 169.25 and 163.75 with my Geforce 8800 GTX on Vista x64. I fixed it by turning the sky detail level to the one just below the highest.

tucor Capalini added a comment - 22/Dec/07 10:12 AM
Just got the rings myself. Didnt have them until I updated to 76116

Jacek Antonelli added a comment - 22/Dec/07 11:45 AM
Updated the issue summary to mention "bands" and "stripes", two other common words being used to describe this issue. Also added a partial work-around in the description, please check if it works for you too.

P.S. I'm seeing this on Geforce 7600 GT, Linux client. It doesn't seem to be platform-dependent, judging by the comments.

Strife Onizuka added a comment - 22/Dec/07 01:23 PM
This is a programing error as can be seen by manipulating WLSkyDetail setting. The positions of the polygons are typically wrong. A solution to this is to choose a value that returns appropriate values.

I have found 30, 48 and 66 all give good results.

Sammytha Paine added a comment - 22/Dec/07 03:02 PM

Added some keywords to make this issue easier to find and perhaps reduce duplicates.

Since there was even a comment about iut on the blog entry, it seems silly to have let this release out with such an obvious and known bug.

Same here since the latest WindLight release.
But, if you turn off the shaders (Preferences - Graphics - Atmospheric Shaders, but Basic Shaders also works) then the problem is solved. Just no fancy sky.

I have an ATI Radeon X1950, .5 gig memory, running winXP with 3 gigs and this same sky banding problem occurs in Windlight 1.18.6. I used the workaround suggested here and reduced sky details and that got rid of the banding for now.

I also see this "dome of stripes" over some sims. I own an Island, and do not see it there, however when I go to other Sim Islands, I do. Not everywhere though. Intel Doucore, Nvidea 7600 Go 256 MB, Latest drivers. NO need to replicate the images, they are the same.

FOR SKY BLACK-BANDING ISSUE - try this (works for me)

Client-> Debug Settings -> WLSkyDetail -> value = 274 or greater up to 409 (410+ crashes!)

value of 273 is the highest "bad" value, all values below seem to be a non-random issue of whether the banding happens or not

values 274 or greater - all good
All ODD values from 203 to 273 result in sky banding.
All EVEN values from 204 - 272 are good..

then it gets worse when you go lower:
from 165 to 201, every THIRD value is good, all others are bad
from 140 to 160 every FOURTH value is good
from 120 to 135 every FIFTH value is good

lower is even screwier:
114, 108, 98, 88, 81, 70, 66, 60, 48 are all good, all others bad

36 is the minimum value for the black banding; 273 is the maximum...
i also noticed 61 and below results in a star pattern in the top center of the sky.
all values 26 and below generate larger star or ray patterns, and blockier color gradiation, but no black banding.

0 crashes the client, as does 410 and higher, and results in being reset to 286 on restart
it's interesting to note that water reflects the banding properly (hehe)
