Notecards are a great way of giving people information about things. Sometimes they contain complex instructions on how to use something. I find that occasionally I want print these out, either so I can read them off line or so I can close the box with the notecard in to try the instructions out. Switching backwards and forwards between the instructions and the space to try them is a pain.

To do this I currently have to cut out the text, open a text application, paste it in, format it and then print it.

I would like to see a "Print" option on the top of the Notecard so I can print it straight from there. A "select all" and "copy"/"paste" functions would be also useful to aid taking the text into documents for off line storage or bringing it back. I am sure this list of functions could be expanded further, but the "Print" one is the one I am really itching for at present.

As the viewer is now open source maybe this could be done by some kind third party and adopted by Linden Labs. If so I would like to see the author get public recognition for their contribution. Maybe it could be implemented by a properites option that allows you to select the current Notecard processor or the new third party one. This would allow the third party one to develop without the risk of cutting off all Notecard functions if it goes wrong.

Printing notecards seems like a lot of overhead, altho I agree that like saving textures to disk, saving notecards as text files would be easier. Particularly since we already have chat logging which outputs to standard text files.

What are the main problems for you to copy and paste notecard text into an external application? (E.g., if you run SL full-screen, I can see how that'd impede you to multitask between programs.)

Torley... saving notecards as text files would certainly help a bit. Then I could go find it, open it and print it later. Direct print would be best but save is a readonable compromise. Thanks for responding.

I am not sure how this would produce an overhead. I had assumed thi sowuld all be client side so no effect on the SL server. Unless you mean making the viewer code larger. Maybe it could just save the text to disk as suggested by you and then automatically call notepad to open it. That way the extra code for formattting and printing the text is not part of the viewer download.

Btw. I have another one (MISC-82) that has been voted up the priority list but no Linden has commented on it yet. Please take a look at that one. I think ithat may cut out some database activity (and so speed SL up) as well as making SL nicer to use, so I am much more keen to get it adopted.

Hi.

The idea of the copy / past is interesting, but all text with liks is lost. A direct print or a save as html would be appreciated.

The notecard could also accept BBCode color codes.

Good Idea, to have a save to disk for note-cards, then again we should have a save to disk for scripts too. A simple single click way to back up our scripts would be great.

Printing scripts would be even more useful, and you can't do it with a simple cut and paste. Sure, I can copy the text into a notecard, but SL's color coding goes away. Without that a script is much harder to read.

This applies to notecards to a lesser extent, as notecard attachments (landmarks, pictures, etc.) turn into ??? when copied into a text file.

And while I'm here, why are there two completely different editors for notecards vs. scripts? Notecards have just as much need of search & replace. Perhaps even more if you've seen the typos in my manuals.
