heh.. oops. I'm an angel av atm, so it's kinda fitting. With atmospheric shaders on.

Updated ATI catalyst drivers to ver. 7.12. Now I have the black bands issue (known issue) that I did not have before.
Lillith Anatine made changes - 30/Dec/07 08:46 AM
Thanks for your email – we're gonna fix the black bands soon, that's not specific to this hardware. Is anyone else experiencing the same "everywhere glow" bug? And to clarify, objects that don't have glow still glow?
We do have some possibly related bugs like Glow itself doesn't work at all.
The odd thing is that it's not objects inworld doing it. full bright, etc., don't affect it in any way. It seems to be just the sun, the moon, the av and av attachments. The attachments I don't understand because HUD attachments aren't affected by environmental lighting. See shots 1, 3, & 4 for illustration. Yet, the attachments only go all blurry and glow-y with shader sky turned on, as shown by shot #2 with the shader turned off for comparison. Really odd, imo. Shot #4 was taken after I'd updated the drivers and completely wiped all Windlight everything from the system. /me's mind blows slightly. I will check the other two you listed, Torley, and see if I also have the same issues. Even though it LOOKS like glow, I doubt it's glow-related. This only happens with shader sky turned on, and it is not affected one bit by any slider positions or adjustments I've tried. I check the "Atmospheric Shaders" box and there it is. I haven't seen too many references in jira reports from people claiming to have an ATI HD2600, so it just might be chipset-specific, though that would be rather odd to have only one rev of a chipset having an issue like this, even though the Windlight rev. prior to this report had the most lovely shader sky. Thx for taking a look at this one, Torley Screenshot #5.
Update 76886 has same issue. Also tried the Sky setting under custom in prefs, no change. High / Medium / Low same rendering. AHHA! A clue. I was flying up with the sun set to noon in Screenshot-6. The av is rendering good, and the sky is rendering good. One of my attachments is still glowing, but when I'm moving in mid-air, the glow effect went away on the avatar itself an in the sky.
Lillith Anatine made changes - 10/Jan/08 02:52 PM
Screenshot-7. OK - I checked the debug settings. In this pic, I am buck naked with 0 prims attached anywhere. The sim (as shown in the screenshot-7) is totally empty. There's no chance of there being anything with glow turned on.
1. RenderGlowStrength has an effect. The default, .350, is horrid. At .150 it's doable as I can see things around me. 2. killing glow entirely in the debug settings by setting RenderGlow to FALSE kills glow entirely and I can see great, just with no glow. 3. turning off Atmospheric Shaders in Prefs kills this effect, but also kills off glow entirely. 4. messing with the settings in the Environment Editor does nothing to lessen this glowing effect. 5. RenderGlowStrength works.. as do the rest of the debug settings for it... but not without Atmospheric Shaders turned on. Conclusion: shader skies and glow are linked together, and the performance of one is dependent on the performance of the other for the most part. #4 above kind of throws a wrench into this assessment, but 1-3 & 5 support it. My guess is that the change made to 1.18.6 (75762) to fix glow b0rked my sky. I can only see glow with shaders on, and then everything that is NOT supposed to glow, glows. Ground, sky, avs. Having prims around with glow 0.0 or 1.0 affects nothing in the outcome.

Same.. exact... results. 3 updates now and 0 change. Still no shader water and this bug remains exactly where it is. If I could go back to the version prior to this bug posting, I would.
Updated to ATI Catalyst 8.14 drivers. No change. I'm at a loss. If the shader code were refactored for this release and a change made to the way the GLSL shader libs link , shouldn't there be SOME difference? Has NO ONE but me seen this?!? With over a million accounts logging in over the past 60 days, if 1 person finds a bug, shouldn't a few thousand others also exhibit the same behavior? I'm getting very, very discouraged. Somebody read this bug and post a comment. Even if you don't see this glow issue. I'm getting really lonely being the only poster (save for 1 from Torley) for over a month. >>>> new system specs: You are at 253973.4, 256976.8, 43.9 in Cape Haven located at sim4271.agni.lindenlab.com (63.210.157.175:13008) CPU: AMD (Unknown model) (2194 MHz) [This is a 2.2 Ghz Turion 64 X2. Very much improved in 79185. Some av attachments still glow, and avatars also glow when there are glow-enabled items in the scene. Sky glow fixed 100%.
MUCH improved, and now I have shader water! >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>. CPU: AMD (Unknown model) (2194 MHz) I THINK this is fixed!!!
One friend of mine has glowing prim eyes, and they seemed perfect, and while he wore them I had no extra objects nor avs in the scene display any issues, including my HUD attachments. I would like others to confirm it, but I'm voting for FIX Lilly Second Life 1.19.0 (79674) Feb 8 2008 16:51:12 (Second Life WindLight) CPU: AMD (Unknown model) (2194 MHz) Thanks Lillith! Sadly, I spoke a bit too soon.
But the good news is this: 1. Go to Client->Debug Settings Then: 1. Log back in .... Login with enabled = BAD Can someone else try this out and see if it works for them? This is looking like a workaround to me. Lilly @Lillith, thanks for trying this out, and yes, RenderGlow = FALSE will disable glow... but what do you mean by you "spoke a bit too soon"? Is "everything" still glowing for you?
We haven't forgotten about you! Who else is having this issue?

Yeah.. it looked like it was good. Then, upon login one sunny morning, it wasn't so good.
I played with it and found that if I disabled renderglow by setting that to false, relogging, and then setting it back to true, it worked ok, with glow. Since then I've found that this seems to work only about half the time. It looked like a useable workaround for a little while there, at least. Here's what glows now: And /not/ all the time. Objects in the scene glow properly now, but I still have these two. Avatars glowing from certain angles (screenshot 8 + slithly changed viewing angle) and from below water (if not the glowing water hides it. See next)
Water glowing when seen from below the surface. (screenshot 9) Seems to be dependent on what is in the scene as it stops glowing when draw distance is lowered and the building in the centre of the sim is not near the draw distance (see minimap) I've experimented with glowing objects, local lights, alpha textures and shiny but can't provoke the water to glow. After some more playing around with the ATI 8.1 drivers i found the following:
Catlyst 3D Driver settings at DEFAULT values and everything possible maxed out under Graphic prefs.
Turning on Smooth Vision HD: Anti-Aliasing ("Use application settings" disabled)
Setting Catalyst A.I. to advanced
— CPU: Intel Core 2 Series Processor (2884 MHz)
BigPapi Linden made changes - 27/Feb/08 03:01 PM
I have been able to repro this under the Catalyst 8.2 drivers (which you should all probably upgrade to), but only if I enable Anti-Aliasing in the "Catalyst Control Center". As such, I recommend that you play around with your driver settings in the Control Center (such as disabling anti-aliasing), until we can work with Ati to get this issue taken care of.
Workaround:
BigPapi Linden made changes - 27/Feb/08 03:18 PM
Ok.. I haven't confirmed this on the Vista box yet, but it DOES work on Linux using the fglrx 8.2 drivers. Worked first try.
<OT> Works. Now just need glow and anti-aliasing to work together on ATI.
Yep. We let ATI know about this and should be hearing back from them soon. The 8.3 drivers actually make the av transparent.
ATI had no problem reproducing it and is on it.
This issue was resolved as "Needs More Info" during our batch cleanup because it was set as affecting First Look: WindLight. On the Issue Tracker, we've noticed many duplicate issues and issues that lacked actionable info or were already fixed.
WindLight recently "graduated" from a "First Look" technology preview to Release Candidate status – nearing inclusion in the main viewer with your help! So, "First Look: WindLight" does not exist anymore. More info and how to download the RC viewer: http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/03/06/new-release-candidate-viewer-1191-rc0-available/ If you've verified that this issue is still a problem in the newest Release Candidate, here's what to do next: (1) Search the Issue Tracker to make sure it isn't a duplicate of an existing issue we know about. If it is, link it as a duplicate using the "Link this issue..." link on the left. You can learn more about searching by watching this video tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SAlXK5hSVMc (2) Reopen the issue and BE SURE to update the "Affects Version/s" to the correct one, most likely ONLY "1.19.1 Release Candidate". However, if this bug affects the main viewer (1.19.0 as of this writing), then DO NOT set it to an RC version. Only set it to 1.19.0 instead. Be as specific with versions as possible – there's generally no need to set multiple versions, as it tends to dilute and confuse where a bug originated. (3) Add any other relevant details that would help us fix it. We can't stress the importance of a "solid repro" enough – a reliable series of steps to make a bug happen reliably. (4) Come and attend our inworld bug triages, where you can meet with Linden Lab employees to look at, verify, and expedite bugs for fixing. More info @ http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Bug_triage Thank-you for helping us improve Second Life!

Still exists in 1.19.1 RC2.
Glow on ATI with anti-aliasing set off of "use application settings." I'm set to watch this but for some reason I don't get emails when someone posts, so I missed the last 3 on 3/9 and 3/10 when it was closed/needs info. BigPapi said that ATI's working on it, so I'll check for the 8.4 driver build soon to see if it's fixed. And yes BigPapi, hardware skinning renders all by an av's eyeballs transparent ;P Well, eyesemispheres anyway, heeee! 1.19.1 (3) identical, down to the invisible avatar.
Hi Lillith. About 2 weeks ago I sent this to ATI, they easily reproed it and have a fix internally. Expect it to come in their future dirvers. Till then, anti-aliasing isn't going to work so well on these ati cards.

with basic shaders turned off, anti-aliasing works beautifully w/ catalyst 8.12. Will try w/ shaders on later to ensure glow is rendered. If renders glow + AA in same scene all good with basic shaders, I'll call it wrapped up.
