I'm setting this meta-issue to critical to reflect that some of the issues linked are critical

Thanks for compiling this! I'll let the right Lindens know about it.

From SLDev mailing list, sent by Tess Linden:
========-
Yesterday afternoon several teams involved with Viewer Auth met to
discuss the rising number of critical login issues holding up progress
for the release of the 1.18.6 client. The final decision was to
postpone Viewer Auth by putting back the old login code.

The reasons at the forefront of this decision include:

  • Internal projects relying on viewer-auth have been delayed.
  • Problems with web servers serving the login page.
  • Unknown cause of crashes at startup.
  • LLMozlib's support of frames has caused numerous bugs.

What this means for you:

  • Second Life client will default to the old login
  • There is no urgent need to support the new login mechanism in your
    client.
  • Existing viewers built with the new login mechanism will continue to
function since the server component of the new mechanism will stay in
    place.

In Q1/2008, Studio Icehouse plans to begin work on Agent Domain Login
(https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Agent_Domain#How_login_works). When
we resume Viewer Auth, it will likely incorporate the interoperability
changes from the login protocol work being designed by the Architecture
Working Group. Those interested are welcome to participate.

I'm not sure this is the right place, but it's as close as I can get. On login I just saw a "Where the hell is this how do I get there!?!" login image. I don't see any means to find where this was taken, and once it's gone, it's gone. LL looks to be taking some screen caps of some very incredible places. But without the means to know anything about what you are showcasing, it's just a pretty image that could be of anything. Perhaps something like the following can be done:

"Like what you see? Click here!" ---> Link to Second Life Showcase, and there's a collection of images with the link going directly to the one I see at login, and where I can get more info. Hopefully this could be done localized. I just find myself a tad irritated that this beautiful image which I'm sure is somewhere in SL, and it's gone. And that's really a shame.

@Romaq - The screens are taken by Torley Linden and can be found here https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Login_screen, unfortunately there is no SLURL with the pictures (which Torley explains there), though it may be possible to find another picture in Torley's flickr page that is from the same area that does have a SLURL.
