  • From Search > Groups tab, search for "Live Music Enthusiasts".
  • Click "Join (L$0)" button and confirm.
  • Edit menu > Groups, make sure Live Music Enthusiasts is checked and click "Info".
  • Uncheck "Receive Group Notices" and click "OK".
  • Log off and wait a couple days.
  • Login.
  • Observe: Group notice pop-ups appear.
    = Expected: You've chosen not to receive group notices, so they shouldn't appear.

I know minor point but if you are getting the group IM's and notice cured totally can you please check the funsctionality of the deselect of receiving group notices actually works. several of the groups I have deselected I am still receiving Group notices from.

It would also be nice to be able to switch of group IMs at times also, but I know that has been mentioned before on the JIRA

I was unable to repro this – works as expected for me and doesn't show group notices when "Receive Group Notices" is unchecked. If still a problem, please provide a solid repro, and find other Residents also experiencing it to post here.

OK guys, interesting status on this one – this bug is not fixed in the main viewer yet. However, apparently, it is already fixed in First Look: Voice 1.18.0.129. MichaelFrancis Linden was unable to repro it there, so please check it out... Voice (including other fixes like this) will eventually become the main viewer.

as of 1.18.0.6 this was definitely not fixed. It may also be broken in 1.18.1.2, but I have not tested it sufficiently.

It also maybe intermittent, depending on.... the particular group. Some groups seem to behave OK. I'll test further.

Today I confirmed that in 1.18.1.2 you can replicate this bug by joining group: Second Life campers / Dancers, uncheck the receive group notices option, and wait. Someone posts at least once a day.

Raising priority from Normal to Major, since there are no workarounds. Also, It has got six+ votes.

Removed 1:15:0:1 from 'Source Version' field, since there are no patches actually.

Added Linux to 'Environment:' field description.

I can't repro this if I try to send myself a notice in a group I'm in – it appears to function correctly – but if someone else sends a notice, I still see it with "Receive group notices" unchecked.

I can't repro this at the moment, so I wanted to make sure I was doing the steps correctly:

1. Account 1: Log in.
2. Account 2: Log in.
3. Account 1: Create a group named "GroupTest". Invite Account 2 to this group.
4. Account 2: Accept group invitation. Go to "GroupTest"->General tab and click off "Recieve group notices".
5. Account 1: Go to "GroupTest"->Notices. Create a new notice, click "Send Notice".
VERIFY: If everything is working properly, then
a) Account1 should receive the notice
b) Account2 should not receive the notice.

Using these steps, I am not able to get Account2 to receive the notice.

Correct Seraph, though it does appear that somewhere along the line it could have sorted itself out. Just checked with my group and my alt...It does appear to be behaving itself at the moment. which concurs with Torley's findings. Have however not been able to test with larger group where the notice was not originated from my machine though.

i'm a designer in "fashion consolidated". as a result, i get roughly one notice per minute, 24/7, and i cannot leave the group, because of the designer status, and i can't disable them. which is, to say the least, annoying.

Thanks for reporting this bug and for the additional comments about your experiences.

I believe this is caused by the group notices setting getting lost when you cross sim boundaries. For example, I only start receiving group notices once I teleport to a different sim; if I log in and stay within the same sim, then I will not get notices improperly. So, this does not seem to relate to the size of the group or the amount of time since I unchecked the group notices box.

All fixed up.

Pending the release of my fix, you can use a workaround to avoid this issue if for example you are intolerably getting spammed by group notices that you have elected not to receive:
1. Go to your offending group's preferences panel (Main menubar -> Edit -> Groups -> Info -> General )
2. Check and uncheck (i.e. double click) the "Receive Group Notices" button so that it toggles to ON then OFF.
Result: You should no longer receive group notices from that particular group for as long as you remain in your current region.
Notes: Everytime you switch regions (either by teleporting or manually crossing a boundary), you will need to redo this step.

Again, once my fix goes live, the receive group notices checkbox will work properly and you won't have to use this workaround. Thanks for your attention to this JIRA and your helpful comments throughout my investigation.

Hi Seraph - thanks for your reply in April sorry took so long for me to see your comment. It's great you have a fix for it. Any chance it can be included in your next release? I just noticed a previous commenter above Beware Hax uses a good group you could test with - Fashion Consolidated (its huge group with notices every few minutes it seems). This group is very popular tool for designers to promote their releases to around 5k customers, so leaving the group is not an option. But getting those notices while trying to build or create IS really tough!! Thank you for checking on it - Rezit S.

I mistakenly added issue MISC-1236 because I searched for "Group Notice" and "Group Notices" before I posted. I got nothing from JIRA search - (what's with that?)
I would also like to know when this fix will be included in either the RC or Main viewer.

The bug makes me very sad. I'm another member of Fashion Consolidated, which receives exactly six billion notices a day. Needless to say that not being able to turn notices off can be extremely annoying.

I too have been receiving group notices with the box unchecked. I get them for ISN Italian Virtual World The Club. and PADI. Please fix it for those groups as well. I will try the work around .

Messages continue to come to me regardless of whether I have the box checked and it really affects the quality of my time at sl when the only option to avoid spam is to withdraw from otherwise valuable groups. Especially when I have to stay in the group because I'm a renter.

I've been consistently having this problem with "Live Music Enthusiasts" with all clients up to 1.20.12.
I hope server 1.23 fixes it. Could this be a problem mainly with high user+volume groups?
