Hi,
I've got the same problem with an ATI Radeon X1650 Pro-Card. I'm not sure how to reproduce it, since it happens random somehow. CPU: AMD K7 (Unknown model) (2087 MHz) This appears to still be an issue. Likewise, a lack of shaders (No clouds except for old-style)
Graphics Card Vendor: ATI Technologies Inc. Drivers appear to be up to date. This issue was resolved as "Needs More Info" during our batch cleanup because it was set as affecting First Look: WindLight. On the Issue Tracker, we've noticed many duplicate issues and issues that lacked actionable info or were already fixed.
WindLight recently "graduated" from a "First Look" technology preview to Release Candidate status – nearing inclusion in the main viewer with your help! So, "First Look: WindLight" does not exist anymore. More info and how to download the RC viewer: http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/03/06/new-release-candidate-viewer-1191-rc0-available/ If you've verified that this issue is still a problem in the newest Release Candidate, here's what to do next: (1) Search the Issue Tracker to make sure it isn't a duplicate of an existing issue we know about. If it is, link it as a duplicate using the "Link this issue..." link on the left. You can learn more about searching by watching this video tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SAlXK5hSVMc (2) Reopen the issue and BE SURE to update the "Affects Version/s" to the correct one, most likely ONLY "1.19.1 Release Candidate". However, if this bug affects the main viewer (1.19.0 as of this writing), then DO NOT set it to an RC version. Only set it to 1.19.0 instead. Be as specific with versions as possible – there's generally no need to set multiple versions, as it tends to dilute and confuse where a bug originated. (3) Add any other relevant details that would help us fix it. We can't stress the importance of a "solid repro" enough – a reliable series of steps to make a bug happen reliably. (4) Come and attend our inworld bug triages, where you can meet with Linden Lab employees to look at, verify, and expedite bugs for fixing. More info @ http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Bug_triage Thank-you for helping us improve Second Life! Updated to current viewer: still an issue
I have the exact same problem, with both the current viewer (1.19.1.4) and the RC before viewer 1.19.1.4 release.
Windows XP Home SP 2 I have the same issue on the current viewer 1.19.1.4. Though I used WL before (can't remember the version) and never had this issue. I created a jira about it yesterday as well with some picks cause I didn't find this one here.
On my office system I run a ATI Radeon 9800SE with 256MB. Okay, so I went and updated the driver to Catalyst 8.3. The large artifacts that have been shown on my jira screenshots here http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-6012
I rolled back to Catalyst 7.12 which totally fails to detect any 3D settings and now going back to 7.9. If this doesn't solve the issue either I will restore 6.11 and roll back my viewer as well cause I was actually happy as it was before. Proofs again to "never touch a running system". Though I did disable both shader options in the graphic preference settings this is a major issue it seems. From what I read across different SL forums anyway. Edit: This can be fixed by making a backup of the ati3d1ag.dll and ati3duag.dll from the last working driver you had running on your system. After that you can install 7.9 or 7.10. Restart your system in savemode and copy the to files back to: C:\WINDOWS\system32\ati3d1ag.dll Reboot again and the system will detect Driect3D again. Does this fix the artifacts issue reported? I'm checking out now but Catalyst 8.3 certainly worked worse than my old 6.11 version. Edit2: Okay seems I resolved the issue at least on my system with the Radeon 9800SE,256MB. I rolled back to the Catalyst Suite 7.5 which serves the purpose just fine. The artifacts stretching across the screen after a few minutes are gone as well as the pixels I had with 8.3. Though I used a modified "ati2mtag.sys" from techpowerup.com to open the additional 4 active pipelines on the card to make it a 9800pro. But I been doing that for years and don't know if that has a big impact on the result. I even upped my settings as displayed on the screenshot above. Still playing with the catalyst center to optimize frames etc but all works fine now for me. Since I opened this issue, I should comment on it. I'm not using that old graphics card anymore, so I haven't seen the issue since then.
This issue was resolved as "Needs More Info" during a batch clean-up of PJIRA issues.
Reason: for an extended length of time, this bug seems to be missing enough details (reproducible steps) for Linden Lab to import the bug and investigate. Also the last affected version of the viewer on this report is viewer 1.21 or 1.20, 1.19, or even earlier, which are versions that are no longer actively supported. It is possible that this bug is indeed valid and should remain open-- however, Linden Lab needs the following pieces of information before it is Reopened: To reopen, please do all of the following: (1) It is very important to confirm that this bug still occurs in the latest official version 1.23. Please upgrade to that version by browsing to http://get.secondlife.com (2) If so, then please Reopen this issue and BE SURE to choose the "Affects Version/s" = 1.23 (3) Also, re-describe the steps that another person can follow to experience this bug. An example of a good "recipe" for a bug report can be found here: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Issue_tracker#Guidelines_for_a_bug_report (4) Come and attend the inworld bug triages, where you can meet with Linden Lab employees to consider, verify, and expedite bugs for fixing. For more information, see http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Bug_triage Thank you for helping us improve Second Life! This problem still is very much alive. I submitted
