The little icons that appear on the menu bar to indicate disallowed functions are completely obscured by the no-entry slash-bar icon placed over them. It's obvious that something is disallowed, but not clear at a glance what that is. Some kind of improvement in this icons would be relatively quick and easy, I would think, and add to the ease of use, especially for new users (and dense older users such as myself).
Yes, yes, I know this isn't a problem on YOUR dual 24" LCD monitors, etc etc.
An example is shown, but this is just tossed out as a guideline to what I'm suggesting. Real graphic artists could no doubt do something much better and with very little time invested.
=========== update for RC 1.9.0 and WLFL 1.19.0.79185 =============
The new menu bar icons in 1.19.0 RC and 1.9.0.78185 WLFL are VERY close to being right on the money, and a huge improvement over the previous versions.
However, after talking to some other people about this, I have to agree that the "no-can-do" circle-slash needs to be a little more obvious in the new 1.19.0 icons. Either make the circle a tiny bit bigger or a brigher red, or try the solution I used in the sample posted here – infill the red circle-slash with white pixels. It makes that part of the icon stand out quite well without increasing the size, and without being too obnoxious.
