 Description  « Hide
The new windlight viewers shader effects for water aren't working on the ATi HD2900XT card. all shader settings are applied but the water appears as a flat bitmap.
Tried lowering the setting to the bottom and re-enabling from the bottom upwards, everything turns back on but the water remains flat.

Hi there - you may be describing VWR-925. Take a look and add your specs, votes there if it's a fit.

Torley Linden added a comment - 16/Nov/07 12:17 PM
Please resolve this as a dupe if it's found to be the same as VWR-926, thanks!

Atsuko Otsuka added a comment - 17/Nov/07 03:25 AM
it's not related to either of the VWR's posted.
VWR-926 relates to the sky being flat, VWR-925 relates to Nvidia cards only being able to do one shader or the other. i have the ATi HD2900XT card, i've tried turning off everything then enabling them again, tired it without the atmospheric shaders, the problem still remains. The new water effects do not work on this card. i have the latest drivers etc.
the screenshot i posted shows the water looking like a flat bitmap.

I am having the same issue as described and also with the effects that Marcio has described. ATI X1950 Pro. No matter what setting I change, Water rendering will not turn on. I am also recieving a error on my Debug console that is related. (Thanks to the G15 functionality that I noticed it!)

WARNING: LLGLSLShader: iniform4v: Uniform index out of bounds.

I am having the same problem: i can't see changes in the water and shiny objects become transparent! I am using a Radeon X1600 card.

Sorry, I meant VWR-925 earlier. Thanks for the additional details.

Atsuko Otsuka added a comment - 26/Nov/07 05:56 PM
Its similar to that issue except this is an ATI card, and trying to run only water shaders without the atmosspherice ones still doesn't enable them. Tried every possible combonation of settings but they simply do not show.

I've resolved this because it's linked to VWR-3184 as a dupe. Please reopen and unlink it if this infact is a separate issue, and please provide details to clarify why. Otherwise, please post new info in VWR-3184, thank-you!

Water shaders still not working on this setup, Latest WL viewer, latest ATi drivers.
Gone through steps to enable shaders, tried turning atmospheric/basic shaders off and only enabling water reflections etc. Water still appears as a flat blue bitmap.

Atsuko Otsuka added a comment - 04/Dec/07 09:25 PM
All shaders enabled, tried turning different shader/ quality settings but with no luck. latest WL viwer, latest ATi drivers as of 5/dec/07

@Atsuko: I notice you reopened this; as I requested earlier, can you please clarify how your experiences are different from VWR-3184? Otherwise, please re-resolve this as a dupe.

I think ATI broke something..

Under 7.12 Water shaders/reflection is broken in both Windlight 76116 and 75762
Under 7.11 Water shaders/reflection is fully functional in both Windlight 76116 and 75762

First i reinstalled 75762 while still running 7.12 alongside 76116 (in a different directory) to see if it was WL that broke.
it wasn't.. under 7.12, both current and previous WL had broken water.

Next, i rolled back the device driver to 7.11
When i ran 76116, water was a-ok. (didn't bother with 75762 since this combination was already known to work)

One of two possibilities:

WL was always ok and ATI fixed something from 7.10 to 7.11, and rebroke it on 7.12
or
WL was always bugged and ATI broke something from 7.10 to 7.11, then refixed it on 7.12

what would the chances be that ATI broke something very specific that actually worked in WL and fix it re-revealing a programming flaw in WL considering ATI NEVER EVEN MENTIONS Second Life in their Catalyst release notes of Bug Fixes and Known Issues? (Never! not even when ATI released the Vista driver to allow SL to run! And THAT was a big deal on Vista's launch!) pretty darn slim i would imagine...

So, now I'm happily running Windlight 76116 on an ATI Radeon X1950 under Catalyst 7.11 with no graphical problems.

This issue was resolved as "Needs More Info" during our batch cleanup because it was set as affecting First Look: WindLight. On the Issue Tracker, we've noticed many duplicate issues and issues that lacked actionable info or were already fixed.

WindLight recently "graduated" from a "First Look" technology preview to Release Candidate status – nearing inclusion in the main viewer with your help! So, "First Look: WindLight" does not exist anymore.

More info and how to download the RC viewer: http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/03/06/new-release-candidate-viewer-1191-rc0-available/

If you've verified that this issue is still a problem in the newest Release Candidate, here's what to do next:

(1) Search the Issue Tracker to make sure it isn't a duplicate of an existing issue we know about. If it is, link it as a duplicate using the "Link this issue..." link on the left. You can learn more about searching by watching this video tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SAlXK5hSVMc

(2) Reopen the issue and BE SURE to update the "Affects Version/s" to the correct one, most likely ONLY "1.19.1 Release Candidate". However, if this bug affects the main viewer (1.19.0 as of this writing), then DO NOT set it to an RC version. Only set it to 1.19.0 instead. Be as specific with versions as possible – there's generally no need to set multiple versions, as it tends to dilute and confuse where a bug originated.

(3) Add any other relevant details that would help us fix it. We can't stress the importance of a "solid repro" enough – a reliable series of steps to make a bug happen reliably.

(4) Come and attend our inworld bug triages, where you can meet with Linden Lab employees to look at, verify, and expedite bugs for fixing. More info @ http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Bug_triage

Thank-you for helping us improve Second Life!
