Apparently same bug, different graphics card
Oops, above comment was me linking this issue to
I'm having the same issue.. running GeForce 8500GT 512mb PCI-E, with latest drivers.
Seems that it tends to happen when I play with the atmospheric controls.. changing between presets. Once it occurs, the only solution is to log out and back in. I thought maybe bouncing from place to place might do it, but that does not help. I've taken numerous snapshots on http://www.slpics.com Played with the atmospheric settings.. I was turned away from the building while taking
snapshots.. when I turned around, I found this. Had a similiar problem before, after exiting the building some of the walkway seemed Some of this building is missing also.. the objects are there, but you can no longer see
them. More than just objects. Just now, I was with friends when I logged back in with the WindLight. I could see her name tag and my radar showed she was there, but her avatar was invisible. Tried logging in and out a couple of times, did not help. Went back to the regular viewer and there she was.
Please don't misuse the "Showstopper" priority but thanks for reporting this; I've heard some similar issues and we'll investigate further! The screenshots are appreciated too.
Same problems here. When I toggle the Atmospheric Shaders on, shiny objects turn black or transparent but I have the WindLight skies. Toggling that off gives my shiny objects back but I lose the sky effects. Here's a snaphsot of what I get: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v249/hamstrdam/ShinyGoesTransparent.jpg
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 (Unknown model) (3192 MHz) This might have already been fixed internally since the buildme last week that we just qa'ed and released, so hopefully this should no longer be an issue with the next release of WindLight First Look (which should be out next week).
As seen in Screenshot-8.. it's not just shiny or alpha that are affected. I was working on a project, playing with GLOW object.. and when I turned around.. I found half the objects
in the sim have losts their textures! I find that even avatars are not seen, if they were in the area that is affected. Trying all I could think of, the only way to fix this is to relog. Hope the following info about my system helps: See the snaphots i put up, the roof is set to shiny, has now gone almost transparent, but not normal transparent. it acts like it's the type of prim used to hide an avatar, it even manages to go transparent through the water
Cleaned up summary, imported so BigPapi and all of us and keep further track of it. Thanks for the feedback!
Still transparent shinies in 1.18.5-74061 as you see on the door and balcony floor and some walls.
Still a problem with Second Life 1.18.5 (74061) Nov 19 2007 10:10:17 (Second Life WindLight)
Reopening Same problem, ATI X1950 pro. Not fixed as of 74061. Also, as noted by Firefox's screenshots; windlight water rendering does not work.
Same problem running Windlight on an nvidia 8800gts (Windows XP)
See this issue http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-3401
If you go into your Catalyst Control Center and Turn on Anti-Aliasing the Shiney comes back but it's stuck in High shine and Ground textures are wrong. Also with AA on Objects set to full bright disappear as if they've had a transparent texture applied to them.
This is with Catalyst 7.11 w/ Crysis hotfix applied on a Radeon HD 2900XT 512MB edition and of Course Windows Vista Ultimate. Funnily enough Reflective Water and such worked on my X1900XT under Windows XP with the original Windlight Client. Edit: I forgot to add that this is the list of features that also DO NOT work:
Haze settings I installed the new Windlight Client and the 7.11 drivers for my ATI Radeon X1800, but the same problems with shiny, water reflection, and (lack of) glow still exist. I'm running on Vista.
New client, no change, ATI X1950, Cat. 7.11, Vista.
Read the release notes guys, only 5 or so fixes made it into the last Windlight update and this wasn't one of them (seems like a rush release to get caught up with the current release candidate.)
I too am having issues with Shiny being invisible when the Atmospheric effects are on..
I have an NVidia 8600GTS and running Vista Home Premium Here is the picture in the current windlight release 1.18.5.74642 with the atmospherics off. the shiny is there.. I to am having invisible shiny issues with Windlight when the atmospheric shaders are turned on.
I have an NVidia GeForce 8600GTS with the latest Forceware drivers (169.04) running on Windows Vista Home Premium. The shots were taken in Windlight release 1_18-5-74642. They can look bluish but also totally invisible see snapshot attachment 3 Retitled summary to reflect current state affecting both ATI and NVIDIA users – thanks for the additional info.

First time using the Windlight Viewer and first thing I spotted .. CPU: Intel Core Series Processor (1599 MHz) Hi folks. I fixed the fallback for this that makes sure shiny objects are not transparent. However, there is little we can do about the fact that glsl is not well supported on these new drivers, so unfortunately water and other shaders simply will not work as the shaders fail to link properly. This is another case of GL not being as well supported as DirectX. ATI says that the 7.12 drivers will be out shortly and may help. I hope this is the case. Thanks for bearing with us.
It's fixed, thankyou very much! windlight was unuseable with the shiny issue, now it's playable.
I've changed all fixed internally issues to Resolved: Fix pending.
Currently I can now follow up on this issue. I am deployed and away from my home computer. If anyone else has any luck with the 7.12 drivers fixxing the issue please post feedback.
Yes, this works now with ATI 7.12 drivers, but there are other issues, like http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-1556
