That only means the IMs don't show up in the chat history, it is still being displayed inbetween the regular chat lines. While chat doesn't get displayed there anymore when you open chat history, no matter if you open or close the IM window, it always gets displayed. Correct me if I'm wrong Voted! Unchecking the box to send IM to chat no longer sends it to chat history but it still scrolls by in the HUD! grrr Really annoying in first person mode.

Just to clarify, by "HUD chat area" you mean "chat console" or "chat overlay", right? Not to be confused with HUD attachments.
Torley, I'm guessing that tx Oh means the translucent chat overlay where text pops up on screen and disappears after a few seconds even when the chat history and IM history windows are closed.
I use Mouselook in C:SI combat and nothing's more annoying than not being able to see yer opponent typing "Ready" or "HOLD, HOLD, HOLD, STOP HITTING ME I'M FROZEN, STOP HITTING ME DAMMIT" cuz someone spammed Group IM and a hundred "stop spamming the group" messages fly by. LOL The patch I submitted for chat logging may have included this.. If not I will see about adding the functionality requested.

i added the screen shots to make my point clear.
what i request on this issue is a preference toggle to show group IMs on the thanx, tx Oh I submitted a patch for VWR-1420 that includes a fix for this issue. The fix will prevent group IM's (all IM's for that matter) from showing in on the screen if they are not sent to the History.

Can we please make this an option in preferences, like "Include IM in Chat Console", I for one like this behavior. Also this should be a separate patch from VWR-1420.
Would more like to have it as a toggle for each group I'm in. For example, it's important for me to see the IMs of the mentors group, but not those of other, sometimes very busy groups, I belong to.
Making it per group would be the best of course, though possibly a bit of overkill.
Based on how I use it (but I know there could be other types of users), I would have it like: Where I would probably make group IM grey and personal IM something visible. Having a separate setting for history is again an overkill. If it's visible, log it, if it is not, don't. And as a special candy, having the option to reduce font size for group messages would be interesting...

Group IM toggle for HUD chat area
This can't be a major priority as you have control of this under preferences. Just uncheck the box to send IM to chat.
