Linden Lab Issue ID: SL-13821

 Description  « Hide
How often does someone you're talking to suddenly disappear mid-conversation? Often, this is because they've accidentally clicked the X button in the upper right, rather than, say, the minimize button. I've sure done it plenty of times, and it's aggravating to have to wait through a relog (often waiting five minutes "for the region to log you out"), and then try to figure out what you were in the middle of doing.

I'm proposing a really simple feature: a warning/confirmation dialog on quit. It'll be really easy, because you already have the ability to add warning dialogs, even with a standardized "[x] Don't show this warning to me again" system in preferences.

I accidentally push Ctrl-Q sometimes when I'm looking for other shortcuts.

This happens to me too. Mainly because I have a wireless mouse, and i use it on my lap. I frequently drop it, and it always lands on the buttons. So there's a 25% chance of me accidentally quitting when it happens.

Annoying

A little confirmation box would be neat, although I do like the spontaneity of hitting one button and you're out.

Maybe make it optional, in the preferences menu. "Confirm on Quit" on/off

: )

I don't need the warning, but I'll vote for this for the preference option.

oops, my bad about the duplicate entry. As I mentioned there, what often happens to me is that I have multiple windows open and I confuse which X goes with which window. As a result, I accidentally quit SL when I meant to close my browser or something.

Sin Trenton - 02/May/07 09:47 AM
I will vote for this one as well.
I often use Ctr + 1 or 3 and especially with the former, it is very easy to hit Ctrl + Q instead.
A confirmation gives you the chance to abort, instead to having relog in again, a process that may be time consuming in times of heavy lag and 35,000 ppl logged in.

I'm in the as-a-preference group. I see the need, but I don't want it myself.

McCabe Maxsted - 31/May/07 09:09 PM
I hate when I accidentally click CTRL-Q and relog. A confirm dialog should be an expected part of any successful UI.

Argent Stonecutter - 07/Jun/07 10:12 AM
^Q is too close to ^A (select all) and ^S (save). I would vote a million votes here if I had them.

(same with cmd-q/cmd-a on Mac)

And on Windows at least the "X" to close the map is too close to the "X" to close SL.

Had this happen to my while saving a script, I selected a different program, hit Command-Q but at the same time SL decided it wasn't sharing focus with anybody and became the active application again, resulting in it quitting instead. I had a script open at the time, so this should DEFINITELY appear if you have unsaved changes to something.

Fortunately it was only a minor thing and easily fixed, but still, very frustrating.

This has been in our internal systems a long time! Linking it up.

Closed as dupe of VWR-1147, which Sardonyx Linden is going to help apply the patch for!
