An addition to this, if my focus is on the 'chatterbox'/communicate window then I can't even move using the arrow keys. I appreciate wanting to keep text-boxes nice and functional, but I'd rather be able to move without having to click in-world first! If it means I can't use arrow-keys to move forward/backward through some text then fine, I'm used to that issue with the big chat-bar, I don't care, it's easy enough to click instead.
Quick note: I don't think many people actually use alt+arrow-keys to move the camera... I expect that most people use alt-clicking along with control and control-shift to control the camera. So this bug may have slipped through the cracks for that reason.
But blocking movement as well? I don't see how they managed not to notice that, I bug-reported several times as well in the past before eventually remember to JIRA this =(
This came up at our UI triage; marking it "Won't Finish" because it isn't clear what to fix here.
We had a discussion about the subtleties of our focus model. It gets confusing if applied inconsistently; as you mentioned, Haravikk, in windows with tabs, Alt-arrow keys move those tabs, so we don't want to set up extra rules of "In all these windows but not these, camera controls will override..." Also, some suggestions, like: [10:34] Jacek Antonelli: It's easy enough to hit escape to break keyboard focus so you can use cam around with alt+arrows. Hitting escape closes many windows! Also the interface used to always allow camera movement, that was part of the appeal of alt + camera controls!
I have however posted an alternative issue: VWR-2846 |
