I've been browsing through the JIRA and I've come across several Avatar-related problems that aren't in the VWR category or are untagged, usually with one vote or fewer. I'm collecting any and all issues related to an avatar not displaying correctly in order consolidate possibly related issues under one umbrella heading.

This is definitely WL FL client. Clothing problems are definite issues - putting on clothes and not seeing them, but seeing the last thing you had on or nothing. I change clothes a lot, and often rapidly through Add to/Take Off. After a certain number (variable and number unknown but start with 7 and go up from there), the clothing items will no longer change and you're stuck with whatever you had on. Prim clothing will change - hair, shoes (not base), other prim attachments. It's the clothing itself. This is repeatable, but not so repeatable that I can give you an exact number of change that will overload the client.

I've got no clue whatosever what my openGL or LLmozlib versions are, it's late, I really don't feel like logging back into SL again tonight. I've had enough frustration already with this.

I downloaded the pre windlight build of the engine, the problem still existed .,but suddenly, randomly started working after I rebaked textures.

Then I reupgraded, and it was still working just fine. I finished chatting with my friends, they went off, and all of a sudden, without rhyme or reason, my skirt vanished again right before my eyes. I didn't DO anything, it just vanished.

And now nothing works. None of the workarounds have ever worked on this. This is a persistant problem, hundreds are having problems, I don't want a 'workaround' which ahs a so called '50%' success rate.

This bug, however simple, is RUINING SL for me. my character doesn't WEAR jeans half the time. With this bug, I am FORCED to wear them just so I don't run around in my underwear the whole time.

this totally ruins the entire point of my characte,r and undermines any fun I was PREVIOUSLY happening before this bug randomly turned up one day.

For the love of all that's holy, PLEASE someone help. Someone FIX this. I'm at the end of my tether, I can't have fun in the game any more, and I've already quit once before because of crippling problems with it, which utterly ruined it for me. I only got back into it because a friend of mine started playing and I had a great time finally, and now this has just put me back to square one again.

This is my only recourse. I can't afford a paid account, which means I can't file bug reports, helpers are enthusiastic and try their best when you can find them, but in the end they can't do a thing, I can't find mentors anywhere, I can't find linden staff members at all if they might even have a clue how to get aorund this or fix it permanently, and I'm just getting angry, frustrated, and I feel utterly furious with how little help I can get on what SHOULD be a simple problem to fix.

And when I say NO meehod fixes it, I mean it. I've tried rebaking the textures, I've tried taking off and putting on clothing.. I've tried changing my avatar entirely for a character test. I'ev tried clearing the cache .I even tried what one person suggested, against my better judgement, and cleared the precache folder which did nothing but slow SL down to a crawl for a good hour.

Please, I am begging you. I don't want to walk away from SL again, with yet ANOTHER bad experience with the software.

my avatar where the textures have gone completely black from toes to fingertips. yes its a black outfit but it is not supposed to look like that

kimmy carbetta added a comment - 03/Sep/08 04:23 PM
ok in this i am wearing bax boot foot forms and it turns my legs completely black. the creator has never seen this before and new forms does not fix it. my gf who was with me and bought the same boots at the same time doesnt have any problem with her foot forms turning her legs black. making my 700$ boots useless as i cannnot wear dresses and the black area is taller than my pants and shows above them. also, panties and socks appear under this black layer but pants covers them. this is seen inworld by others.

this problem cropped up about 3 weeks ago for me and ive been pulling my hair out (figureatively) trying to fix it. nothing ive seen or done has fixed my textures or alpha channel turning black in some of my purchased, no mod, outfits. now it has affected my boot purchase on sept 1 or so where when i put the foot form on it appears like flat black pants. socks and undies are covered by this pants are not. on some other pants the length seems to be over 100% and covers my shoes and goes into the floor, this also is happining to items that fit perfectly before and are no mod.

me and my alts had this problem bad, i even made a new account and that one got a black stripe up the leg like the seam was busting, but i had close to L$50,000 worth of stuff that was useless because of this, it also made some skins 2 tone, neck up lighter shade, support tried all they could do and said 2 come here and the dev's could work on it, here is what i did i rolled my drivers back, went from 177.92beta all the way back to 175.19, it did solve the problem 4 now, i'm back to 100% the way i should b and when u log in after u have done the drivers rebake and u should return 2 normal but i would call it a work around till the problem is fixed, if nothing else has worked try it. i had tried this b4 but keep rolling back and rebaking, u might not have 2 go as far back as i did.

for gloves and shoes etc turning the ava skin colors try this as it worked for my 9800GTX 177.92 drivers. ctrl-alt-F7 to turn palletized texturing off and next ctrl-alt-R to rebake textures

jessica lowell added a comment - 18/Sep/08 04:56 PM
Sparta Thor is on to something. I previously had to roll back my driver to the one that came with my geForce 8800GTS. It was v.166(something) dated January, 2008. This got the graphics straight, but caused my card's fan to run at 100% constantly which was very noisy. I reloaded my most recent driver, v.177.79, and tried his tip. On my card, I got good graphics after I did ctrl-alt-F7 to turn palletized texturing off and next ctrl-alt-R to rebake textures then did ctrl-alt-F7 again to turn palletized texturing back on. Unfortunately I have to play with this two switches every time I wear clothing that is affected by this bug. So far, I can get the clothes to display properly, but this is not a very good fix for me. I rank it barely above having to play with my drivers and use Riva to control my card's fan.

This leads me to think that some variation on this combination might solve problems for others with geForce cards.

Good luck with this issue. You'll need it since SL support seems to think telling us that it is a known issue is a solution.

Jewella Stine added a comment - 31/Oct/08 02:28 AM
my variation of this fault started around Oct 25th and occurs when I try wearing underwear under a shirt/skirt combination - my arms and legs turn white and display underwear manufacturers copyright info. The f7-rebake fix works sometimes but not this morning when I couldn't wear underpants I worn dozens of times already without my legs turning white. Sorry I'm too fluffy to give any technical info - but I didn't change any settings - was fine two weeks ago - this particulat variation is new (to me at least)

Mo Hax added a comment - 09/Dec/08 02:48 PM
I strongly believe this issue is resolved after suffering its affects on the SLim client and general release client and finding that I can now reliably rebake any of these anomalies without recurrence on the 1.22 release candidate. This includes removing the black lines, the problems with club feet, flared pants, and apparent TGA alpha layer rendering problems. Don't forget to rebake when trying the 1.22 client, that is still required.

Here is the version that works for me:

As it is not happening to me personally I will not list my specs. However, I have had quite a few customers IM me and ask for help regarding blackened clothing textures that may or may not extend beyond the template boundaries and/or alphas, and also skirts appearing full length when they are cut shorter with the Appearance sliders, or not appearing at all. Sometimes it has been simple to fix by asking the customer to try rebaking, giving them a replacement with mod rights, or suggesting more drastic measures like dumping cache, but as can be seen listed in above comments and related JIRAs, these options are not always successful, and sometimes just make the problems worse. I am interested to see if these and associated issues will be resolved. It seems the bugs are not specific to any one version of GC, as ATI, NVIDIA, Celeron and Intel have all been made mention of here and through the related JIRAs.
This is a plethora of problems that needs serious attention.

Ana Lutetia added a comment - 22/Apr/09 05:02 AM
This is happening in the latest viewer: 1.22 and it started happening all of a sudden. I didn't log in SL for a few days and then I am having AA, alpha and palletized textures issues.

This is happening in all layers: skins and all clothing layers. Either I see my avie wearing the UI or see myself all black.

Here's a couple of snapshots directly from SL:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3526/3463978906_0e43e9ecd0_o.jpg
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3575/3463091923_013aced7fd_o.jpg

One of the workarounds is to slightly alter the length of the clothing piece and save it but, however, most clothes are no mod. So, this workaround doesn't work.
Also, whenever I use a skirt layer with an alpha the skirt looks weird. I tried a knee lenght skirt that had an alpha and suddenly the skirt shows a different length and all transparent.

Hi guys, please try to post your comments and pictures to the specific issues that are linked here (in the Issue Links section). This meta-issue is just a category to hold links to avatar display issues.

For example, if the UI keeps getting pasted onto your clothes, you should post your screenshots and comments to VWR-3282, rather than here.

Syler Zhora added a comment - 13/May/09 09:46 PM
ATI cards causes the issue. The fix is simply to upgrade your ATI driver at www.ati.com .

If the driver does not install correct you'll need to enter safe mode on the PC (Press F8 when PC reboots) and uninstall the driver first then restart and install the driver.

If the driver still does not install you'll need to get a freeware DriverEraser or DriverSweeper and run it to remove all likes of the old driver.

I have the Black worn texture issue on two different viewers.

Second-life by Linden Labs - Version 1.23.5.136262 (which why im posting this)
and on Emerald Viewer 1.23.5 (950)

But seeing how this is happening on the main LL Viewer as well im adding my comment.

This is all i done to resolve this issue. (happening for a week)

1. Clear Cache and relog (Failed still black)
2. TP to another sim and clear cache and relog (This would work for me but very rarely and sometimes it would load fine but sec later just go black.)
3. Clear Cache, unstall all viewers, and ALL user related files to them. Reinstalled the LL Viewer. (Failed.. )

This issues giving me great stress, and as a perm member i like to see this fixed as soon as possible. having this issue makes me not even want to stay logged in. After Fresh install, cache clearing and this happening to more then 1 person so not my internet crap if this could be a asset fetch error or one messed up fail on the viewer code that reaches to 3rd party viewers.

if i dun like loging in to have issues such as this ill just end my perm and go back to basic until something finally done about it.
