Linden Lab Issue ID: SL-56679

 Description  « Hide
Objects contained within prim organizers can be retrieved back into Inventory. However, when the retrieved object is rezzed on the ground, the message will be returned that it is 'missing from database'. This happened several times with wedding objects that had been in the organizer for approximately six months. It is not restricted to my avatar as Telia Soyer and others have reported the problem as well. Given that the objects in the organizers are irreplaceable, this bug is rated major.

I have had this problem and reported it as bug. I have yet to hear back. I made a folder called photo poses- won't rez.. I can see the photo poses I bought from lost dog but I can't rez them. I get a missing from data base message. I get this message for a gesture as well. If anyone knows how to fix this. Let me know plz.

Aiko Gaea added a comment - 18/Sep/07 01:07 PM
I have been experiencing the same missing from data base issie while attempting to rez objects since September 14. I currently have a folder within my inventory holding over 45 objects from clothing prim to builds and furniture on which I get the missing from database message. Thus far I've calculated the value of these items (which I can no longer use) at approximately L$23,000. Is Linden labs going to reimburse me? I'm not holding my breath.

I'm facing the same problem since a couple of days, 14th Sep. could be possible. Clothing, body parts, plants, furnitures, all kind of objects can't be rezzed anymore, roundabout 70% of my complete inventory, estimated value between 30.000 and 40.000 L$! I'm facing the problem on 2 different PC's and one laptop, all running with viewer 1.18.2.0. I have reported this issue as a bug, without results so far. Need help urgently, Linden Lab's assistance would be highly appreciated.

I have exactly the same problem since the last couple of days. Reported as a bug, got no answer, several of my outfits are unusable, unable to use some AOs, since their config notecard was damaged, etc. Haven't got a complete list of the losses, but I estimate of a couple thousands, with some of the items irreplaceable. Tried the newest viewer on both Windows XP and OSX - no luck.

I have this problem too, it has been happening for about 2 weeks. No pattern to it. Out of a sample file of 80 objects I had only 20 that did not give me the error message! Most of my clothing is missing one file rendering the outfit unusable. What is worse is that it wasn't an one time occurance. Things that worked yesterday might not work today, but I haven't seen that in reverse. I too have started a "Dud" file for all the ones that are missing from database. I work part time in SL and much of my inventory was bought or built for my employeer. This has the potential to be devastating for the organization I purchase items for in SL. It is almost virus-like in the way objects are missing... no pattern, most of the missing ones are older objects...some purchased or made nearly a year ago. If I find one newly purchased object that behaves that way I will no longer buy or build. SO...SL this problem has the potential to affect the economy once enough people know about it! The following is copied from the profile of a long time SL resident and award winning builder:

<<<<During the past 3 months or so, many items in my inventory have refused to rez, I get this message instead: "unable to rez object. Object is missing from database."

Despite numerous bug report and lately opening a ticket with the new support portal, LL has been unable to fix this problem, and finally admitted to me that these items are never going to be recoverable.

This is an unacceptable setback for me. I have lost hundreds of expensive items, some were made by myself, some were acquired over a year ago. I will not go through my whole inventory of 8000 or so items and contact their creator to beg for a replacement.

The item's names still show in my inventory, that's what is most frustrating. I can check the properties. Some show "unknown" as creator. So even those I would not be able to contact the creator.

In view of this, I cannot continue this game. >>>>

If this cannot be corrected it MUST at least be stopped.

This problem's been around for at least early September or so for me. I'm a builder. Some people here mentioned that older objects were effected, but I'm having objects as recent as a few months to objects made days ago experience the same problem. This is unacceptable. it really is. I can't continue creating items for a business if the items are unusable the day after I make them! If these items are indeed unrecoverable, most of which I've created, LL owes Residents something at the very least. An answer, a fix, a form of compensation- whatever.

I've found that sometines a relog works enough to rez the important items I need like a plant or poseballs for furniture, however, there's a limitation on how much i can rez before the " missing database" message pops up. It's not always the same pattern though. Objects missing today may work tomorrow, but not at peak times; or items not working 2 weeks ago work, then revert back to not working; previously fine objects suddenly don't work a few minutes later...something needs to be done about this. The particular pattern i HAVE seen is old not recently or often used items......items used frequently( in my case, poseballs, shoes, hair attachments, etc.).....very "primmy" items (ie. a mansion or elaborate fountain)

am running the current viewer as of Oct 4 2007 on XP.

I'm having the same problem. Object missing from database: Older items, new items, items I created, items I bought, clothes, snapshots, textures, objects, scripts, animations – you name it. This is extremely annoying and it's expensive, too. I paid thousands of L$ for the stuff that doesn't rez anymore. I filed a ticket but got no help so far.

Apparently this is not a new issue (http://blog.secondlife.com/2006/11/10/inventory-issues-its-not-just-you/). So it's well known to the Lindens and they don't seem to be willing or able to fix it, which makes this even more frustrating.

arianna devoix added a comment - 05/Oct/07 08:39 PM
This is the problem I am having and YES it started around the same time as everyone else. If anyone remembers or were on this problem started with the September 11 attack on SL. There were so many things that were attacked that day and this wasn't an issue with me until this happened. Now as of right now I am out OVER 10,000$L I'm still checking my inventory and more and more stuff is gone. Especially my shoes and jewelery. But EVERYTHING has been affected. It's to the point why PAY for an account when everything you have here is just going to disappear!

Garth Goode added a comment - 06/Oct/07 03:43 AM
I also have this isue. It seems to affect objects that I ut into inventory about 6 months prior or earlier. It affects most any type of object – prims, landmarks, clothing, textures.

Aryanna Draken added a comment - 06/Oct/07 05:42 PM
For the last 6 weeks I too have noticed that objects are missing from database. I know I have more than 100 objects missing, including clothing, furniture, shoes, etc. This problem is getting worse too. Thursday, I purchased a set of Neko ears and tail. After unpacking the box and attempting to attach the left ear, I received the message "Unable to create object, object is missing from the database". I "just" purchased it! Not only that but I got a replacement from the creator and again, the left ear was "missing from database". I have had to repurchase several items, entire avatars are missing, portions of avatars, portions of clothing and other attachments. This is extremely frustrating. I have spend thousands of linden on these items, I am not going to spend thousands in order to replace them. I work too much in SL in order to make my linden...to the point where it's almost not fun anymore. I'm not going to go through this again. This problem seriously needs to be addressed. :-/

Jayden Beresford added a comment - 08/Oct/07 08:52 PM
This has been happening for me for a long time. It seemed to start when the man-hole cover power failure occurred. After then many of my older items, ones that were not rezzed started to become affected.

I have lost close on L$100,000 now with it, mind you one item was a L$70,000 custom skin. My most annoying loss was my Jogauni quest firefly staff, that took three months of hard work to earn, they cannot be bought.

Linden's answer... Sorry we are unable to restore lost objects.

I am guessing there is an unidentified corruption in the SQL database.

Personally I think this should be a blocker, not just critical.

Angela Giulia added a comment - 10/Oct/07 01:50 AM
For approximately a month now, I have been having this identical issue. It started when I logged in one day to find my av a ruth, with no skin and no hair. I can see my skins and hair, etc. in my inventory, but when I try to wear any of them I get the message "Unable to create object. Object is missing from the database." Both of my skins, almost all of my hair (of which I have a LOT), my clothing, eyes, EVERYTHING I try to use I get this message. It's been almost a month now and it hasn't returned. So, what..is my stuff just gone?

Ingeniero Newall added a comment - 14/Oct/07 09:47 AM
I have the same behavior. Lots of items are "missing from the database".... my own items, scripts... items i've bought...no transfer, no copy....I find no relation between the lost items.

Does not matter if i want to wear or rezz it on the ground... no way to use them. I hope they are not really lost!

This is scary.

I hope we can find a solution soon.

Logged in, part of my clothing was missing. My AO and MystiTool not attached. Attempted to wear all items at several locations in SL was given messages Unable to create requested object, please try again or Object missing from database. Attempted to rez several objects again in different locations in SL, received message Unable to create requested object. The inventory asset issues that were supposedly fixed are not. You need to try again.

Having this issue...

I am unable to attach items that I was wearing last night when I logged off. They were showing in my inventory this morning, just not attached and when I tried to attach them, I get "object missing from database". The objects were attached just fine when I left the client last night. Please fix this.

I'm getting this same problem now, and I'm running version 1.19.1

Lost an item (my left, bestest shoe) to this gremlin. Hope it takes a later flight and makes a re-appearance.

It's still in my inventory, but trying to wear this shoe yields the 'object missing from database' message.

Seems to be related to the asset server shuffling at linden today and yesterday.

Bogus.

Rizla Laval added a comment - 17/May/08 07:27 AM
Yesterday I started to recieve many IM's and notecards from customers that was trying to rez the buildings they had purchased from my shop. Almost all my builds are packed into house rezzer boxes because of the many parts they are made from. Some reported object missing from database, while other said that the rezzers started to rez the house but stopped half way with again.. object missing from database. So today I've been testing all my structures and found 11 of the 46 have parts missing from database or are completely missing.

This is not only related to my inventary items but also the items in my venders and saleboxs on my shop walls.

I have established my business over the past year in SL and this is a killer blow, as it seems that all the thousands of structures I have sold to customers will now be bad with missing parts or will not rezz at all.

Now the wierd bit. In some sims a few of the structures will rezz but not in other sims. So as a disparate last ditch attempt to save them Im trying to repack what i can save in new rezz boxes. which I hopefully can pass onto the many unhappy customers.

Mad Turk added a comment - 22/May/08 03:42 PM
Well, I've heard it all now.

Linden refused my trouble ticket on the basis that I'm only a Basic account holder, and my inventory loss issue (see above) wasn't among the half dozen or so canned questions we Basic muggins are allowed to open tickets on.

I've spent lots of L$'s over the last two years, and paid L$ for those shoes too; one of which Linden has neatly Lost in Space.

Thankfully, the vendor was kind enough to replace it, but come on Lindens! Get off the pot, will ya?

Gypsy Paz added a comment - 29/Sep/08 08:35 AM
The last couple weeks I've also been getting reports from customers who purchased items and are getting this error, and it seems to be getting worse, I've got 3 scripts I've written in the last 48 hours that are missing from the database.

Webby Merlin added a comment - 07/Oct/08 10:12 AM
I have two objects that i know of.. that i use and "wear" every day that fit into this category.

One is my killer HUDDLES EZ Animator v1.2 which I rarely detach. There was a time when it was completely missing from inventory.. (that topic is addressed in VWR-6110) - and it was saved (for me and a few other premium accounts (hugs to Mad Turk)) by going to a LIVE CHAT session (using a Firefox browser only) and requesting a DEEP INVENTORY RESTORE. I did this again, since now trying to wear my Huddles (containing over 50 Sine Wave no copy dances) from inventory gives me this same "object missing from database" error. Maggie Linden bless her sweet heart did the deep restore and recovered 20 of 22 "corrupted objects" - and when the two listed here failed to attach, tried to escalate the issue up a level at tech support.

In addition to my Huddles.. i also have this error on ONE of TWO Prim shoes (with Toes!) that i dearly love and wear every day. Now these shoes are NO PERMS... they do have scripts inside to change toe skin and nail colors.. etc... but i'm not adding things to them (like i do with the Huddles). One attaches fine.. the other is "missing from database."

So I'm walking around with a limp and can't dance. Other than that i'm fine

I'm dismayed that this particular error has no fix posted and is ongoing OVER A YEAR since August 2007? Call all your friends to come here to JIRA VWR-2148 and log in and VOTE. I have an open ticket on this... the more tickets submitted with this error the more attention it will get.

Good luck to us all!

After having lost my Huddles dances...... over 200 of them to a prim root problem, my hud was returned empty. I have been replacing 100 dollars worth of dances. Now I am getting an " Unable to create requested object.Object is missing from data base." ERROR. I am THe fringe from one outfit is missing, the shoe from another. One shoe is not going to help me!!!! As I am going along I am finding more items missing. The item looks like it is in the file, but will not wear. Who will help with this problem?

I am using the version 1.21.6.. has that been reported by anyone??

Iexo Bethune added a comment - 24/Oct/08 06:47 PM - edited
1.21.6 the new one? Yeah, I'm getting that too. Half my vehicles, half my outfits, and bits and pieces of everything else that's left. Projectiles missing from one vehicle, scripts from another, bits and pieces of almost every outfit I have. I'm gonna go play Halo 'till this is fixed, I can't really function without anything to wear or fly. Voted.

sheilah flatley added a comment - 26/Oct/08 08:07 PM
since new updates i can hardly wear a gown as one , atleast one pasrt is not wearable because i get the message missing from data base.

it affects not only my gowns but also things i want to rezz like trees furniture effects animals pictures ect ect ect .
I would say more than 1/3 of my inventory is not usable anymore.

I investigated and sevral of my freinds experience the same , i had it before but now since last two updates it is really critical
and absolut not funny anymore, it pulls my nerves and makes me angry , after all there is money behind it !!!!!!! I sure hope it will be resolved soon

i thought i was going crazy. i can't rezz many objects in my inventory. i don't know if i'm happy or extremely upset that this is happening to other people. please help

eoin hotaling added a comment - 21/Jan/09 07:15 PM
It is still happening. I have had part of my house disappear, along with mystery behaviours. I have bought hair (I'm a model) and had one or more parts of the set exhibit this problem - even the creator has been unable to access the original hair - same "Item not in the database".

The only thing that is worse is the persistent HATE SL seems to have for Xcites - I'm on my SIXTH set of Xcites as I can be wearing them, and then suddenly, they are both detached and missing from Inventory. I've filed support requests on these issues, without a response.

Paris Landsmann added a comment - 31/Jan/09 12:49 PM
SL ate my Chimera with L$1,000+ worth of dances and I am pissed off. Please fix this

Baloo Uriza added a comment - 19/Apr/09 07:35 PM
I'm a little surprised this one remained open this long without someone pointing this out about the original request when it became available: The Lindens now have a formal process for dealing with inventory recovery. Please see http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Inventory_Recovery_Steps for details; for better results, consider going through the whole process before contacting support since they'll probably ask you to do this anyway.

I see a few responses from people who lost money instead of inventory; for this sort of thing, view your transaction history from the second life website; if there's no matching transactions to account for the discrepancy, contact support directly for this sort of issue, not the public JIRA.

MadDog Tremor added a comment - 14/Sep/09 07:00 PM
Same issues here. I also submitted a support ticket regarding this matter. Lindens really need to get on the ball. Such a disappointing company lately.
