My configuration does NOT work vor SL. I have a new NVIDIA 8-series ard, 512 memeory,
I had a version of drivers of NVIDIA that was dated july 1st, 2007. It did work, though at every reboot I had to reinstall the drivers.
Now NVIDOA put a nesw version of the dreivers dated july 26th - and SL doesn'nt load properlt naymore. After waiting for 5 minutes or more I get the login-screen, but my pc won't react to any in put anymore - rebooting is the only option left....

Surely all Word users buying new computers are going to have Vista. It's essential to have support for Vista. I also found only really old information. I feel as if I have committed sl suicide by getting a new computer.

PS My graphics card is ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M. Another thread suggests the ATI RADEON problem has been resolved.

I have the same graphics card + a little more than 1GB of RAM, but it's still not allowing me to start the program.

I've just got a new Sony Vaio VGN-AR41S laptop with Vista (no choice )

Viewer "1.18.2 (0) Aug 10 2007 09:34:24 (Second Life Release)" seems to work pretty well – even when I turn on all the sexy graphics – and hasn't crashed in the four hours or so that I've been trying it. However, the streaming music is not playing, although the wind sounds etc. are... Voice chat doesn't work either. (Note, I have an M-Audio Ozone USB sound interface, so my sound set-up is not totally standard).

Ah, I should add that I have the account-based security turned off, because it broke so many of the programs I need to run – I'm guessing that's important! LOL

Phew...all this kewl new software and I can't enter Linden Land! I either have to go back to my 'First Life' and re-install Windows XP or keep Vista and forget 'Second Life'! There otta be some Linden guys that can help this issue... Let me know k?

I was successfully running SL with VISTA until three weeks ago. Now every time I try to open SL it crashes. If I download SL I can get it to run, but only for the current session, then it just crashes on takeoff. Pretty frustrating, I am going to drop out until they fix the VISTA support.

Running Vista no problem, in fact I switched due to streaming music not playing on XP! I am running NVidia series 7 card, but I have 2GB of memory. This PC was one of the last in the store to come with XP pre-installed and a Vista upgrade. Even on XP I crashed constantly until I upgraded from 1GB to 2GB, so Deidre, it does not really matter what your OS is 512mb is going to be very fragile and on Vista highly unlikely to work (whatever the minimum/recommended RAM says on the SL website, which of course does not refer to Vista as Vista is not officially supported).

My companion and I have both got issues with Vista and SL. We have Acer Aspire systems with the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 cpu and ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro graphics cards(256 mb ram) and 3 gig of system ram and Integrated high-definition audio with 7.1-channel audio support S/PDIF (Sony/Philips Digital Interface) support.

Second Life crashes if we do updates to the video drives. I am running SL as a win XT application and if I don't update my system (a bit of a pain with so many new driver updates almost every day) I manage to run SL with only five or six crashes an evening.

Also, when we attempt to use two monitors with SL the video card goes into nowhereland with continuous driver failures. This does not happen when running applications such as Photoshop CS3 or regular web browsing.

Our temporary solution is an image of the setup as it works with SL and Vista and disconnect our second monitors (a pain for content creation as the ability to have a graphics app on one monitor while SL is open on the other is very handy!). When a driver or system update brings SL to it's knees we can then "rollback" by going to the last working SL compatible setup.

Vista is now listed under SL System Requirements (http://secondlife.com/corporate/sysreqs.php). I assume that means it is now officially supported (PS Francoise Fairey is my alt)
