Linden Lab Internal Branch: maint-viewer-9

 Description  « Hide
When selecting more than one inventory item and dragging that onto someone's profile only sends the last selected item. This could be spam protection, but then it's unclear what happens. This is a problem for example with photo contests, where people can send in up to three submissions. They don't know only one is sent and the recipient doesn't know more than one is sent.

Repro:
Select two or more inventory items, drag them onto someone's profile to transfer.
*Observed: All items appear to be sent, only the last one selected is received.
=Expected: All items are sent and received. Possibly creating folder in recipient's inventory with sender's name (much like how sending an item list through script works).

Reproduced this with both main (1.18.0 (6) Jul 11 2007 11:18:55) and voice First Look (1.18.0(129) July 17, 2007) viewers.

Note that it is the last item that is selected that is received by the resident. So if you have items A,B,C,D in name order in your Inventory and click on D then ctrl+click on B, only B is received.

This also happens if you drag the items onto the avatar itself. Very annoying and unexpected.

This behavior has been around a long time – workaround is to put stuff in a folder before sending. It's certainly not what I expect to happen.

At the very least it should automatically send them as a folder (so the receiving user gets a single dialog and one load of files in a folder to look at).

What's even worse is that people have no way of knowing only the last item was sent. You have to ask the other person how many items they received before you're aware of the bug.

Saw this in the 1.21 public nightly list of JIRA issues. Blocking multiple items being sent is not what I would call a fix for this issue. If anything, it's a kludge to cover up a poor implementation. We need the ability to transfer more than one item a time to other avatars without having to manually send them one at a time, or create more inventory spam through unnecessary folders/boxes.

The "interim fix" as described above is released in the 1.21 viewer.
