Linden Lab Issue ID: DEV-2882

 Description  « Hide
[2007-08-02] Torley Linden: I was able to repro this with the posing stand @ Philudoria (104, 80, 641) as well as attaching an object to my left shoulder while facing east and standing normally. This may be the same as http://lindenlifestyles.com/?p=322

Changed priority to normal; an easy workaround I noticed at FireFox's place is to rotate the posing stand north instead of east, and try again.

I was also able to repro this by attaching something to my right shoulder and facing north (approximately, it's a bit tricky but I kept rotating, editing my attachment, and watched for when the arrow disappeared). L & R hips and lower legs also worked, others may possibly too.

I wonder if this is height-related; I haven't been able to repro this on the ground so far.

========-

Original summary: Attachments to Avatar's Left Shoulder do not have a Z axis (blue positioning arrow)

Steps to reproduce:

1. Rez and object
2. Change it's shape to sphere (any shape will work actually)
3. Right click on it and select More/Attach/Left Arm/Left shoulder
4. Try to Position it using the Z axis (blue arrow)

Observed Results:

Unable to see or use the Z axis position arrow, cannot move the object vertically. No blue arrow showing.

Expected Result:
You should be able to move the object vertically along the Z axis.

Notes:
You cannot move the object vertically by typing in the position either since it is attached to your avatar's left shoulder, Right shoulder attachments are fine they work like the should.

FireFox, over the last stretch of months I've heard varying reports of the Z-axis arrow disappearing from attachments, but haven't had a solid repro. I tried these steps and it didn't work for me – I still see the blue arrow. I wonder what else this is dependent on? Can you please check, reopen if you find more info, and let me know? Thanks!

Ok I found a reliable way of reproducing it, you have to be sitting on an Object, using a posing stand in otherwords, before the above steps will produce the result.

I have a Posing stand that can repro the issue 100% everytime if you'd like to see it.

Update:
It seems to only affect certain posing stands, could be a scripting issue. I know it's affecting mine.

Screen shot of missing Z axis while on pose-stand.

FireFox, please send me your posing stand (or if you can't, let me know where I can see/get one inworld) and I'll check it out! (I went to the location in your screenshot but didn't see the stand there.)

I was unable to repro this on the pose stands I do have, and Ash Fox's posestands @ Meribel (130, 102, 106).

It's a no-transfer pose stand unfortunately, Unless you can override that with your linden powers. I'm going to leave a copy of it out on my parcel for you to test.

Thanks, it repros for me too. Wonder how connected this is to earlier reports... I'll import this internally.

I get this too...voted

hmm. I got this on 1.18.3.4(RC), too. When you zoom out your camera much, it appears.

FireFox Bancroft added a comment - 06/Oct/07 06:14 PM
It appears to disappear somewhere around 500+ altitude, Also as Noted by Seagel Neville it re-appears when zoomed out, unfortunately for parts that need precise placement this is not practical. Also building on the ground at my place is not practical, there is simply too many complex builds around my place putting a strain on my video resources so my only option really is to build at high altitudes.

I'm sure the Z axis disappearing around 500m(z) is not intentional as other parts and builds seem unaffected by this peculiar bug. As far as I know, the build limit is around 750m(z)(I could be wrong about that) and I'm well below that.

Thanks for keeping this alive, I'm going to send another reminder about this.

Fixed internally by Scouse Linden last month on 2007-10-19, sorry it took me awhile to update public status.
