I have this same problem. My avatar keeps ascending unless i hold down the down key. Once I get back to the ground it still doesn't allow me to press the stop flying button even though normally you'll just stop flying once you hit the ground. Right now my avatar is not even in a region so I cant even log in anymore!!!!!!!!!
Are you wearing any flight script attachments? Please right-click your avatar and Take Off > Detach All. Please confirm if the problem still happens.
Issue
Torley, it is generally difficult for me to not wear a flight attachment as I live on Nolidae Mountain in the Old Continent and that mountain is too high to fly on!
However today I was going to fly across Serpentata to Dimidata and the packet loss was getting higher so to play safe I turned off flight assist on my Mysti-Tool, but left Mysti-Tool on otherwise. I suffered from involuntary flying going down into the ground through several buildings, before springing back to hanging outside the 1st building I crashed through. This did not trigger the often related bug Character Attachments lost or in the wrong place ( Mercia sent resident an inworld IM asking if this is still an issue. I am waiting to hear back.
I have a very similar problem with horizontal flying. At completely random times and in random places I press the up arrow when flying (that is up on the keyboard to fly forwards), and I just keep on until I reach the sea, then I am logged out of second life except for messaging. When looking at a map it appears to judder across the screen. If I am quick I can sometimes tp before i reach the sea, although often it won't allow this, sometimes i tp and i am back to normal, sometimes i am still endlessly flying.
This has happened on two different laptops, The only attachament is hair. Alexa, yes this is still an issue happened to me again today on the border of Pavonia and Saturnia. It is largely a region hand-over issue, so far as I can tell.
Mercia More region crossing problems today (28th September) with the grid general having problems, L$ balances not showing Group Names as ???, general lag.
Mercia received IM from Reporter:
[8:41] Dark Otsuzum: (Saved Wed Sep 26 09:13:34 2007) Re Jira 'Can't stop flying': Not been a noticable problem of late but I will keep you advised. I am resolving the task for now. I've had this happen within Caledon recently, where the least attempt to move by flight caused me to slingshot out of the sim, across several others and into the Void. I gave up trying to maneuver around the skybox I was exploring after the second time. I was, however, able to TP or be TP'd out of the otherwise-uncontrolled flight.
I can try to recall specific times/dates and attachments if that information will be of any help. SL 1.18.3.5, OSX 10.4.10, G5 2GHz 2GB, Cable modem access through Airport router
This has not been fixed. I get this problem often. Very often. Avatar will seem to fly uncontrollably straight through about a Sim distance, and then snap-back (I think I've seen the word "rubber-banding" used to refer tihis). After unstoppable flight occurs, avatar is put back where flight went wrong. May be related prim "asstachment" bug: Noticed that original report was for Windows XP. I am using Macintosh OSX.
Interestingly, both original reporter and I have ATI Radeon 9800 PRO graphics cards. I have edited the bug description to include Mac platform. Also, note that direction of movement is not always up, but is unstoppable. I think a number of problems are being conflated here.
My problem was that ONLY 'Stop Flying' failed to work. The UNRELATED problem of continually flying in a particular direction (& associated rubber banding) is probably due to lag/severe packet loss.. My problem is that I could do everything else with controls, except get out of flying mode. For example, I stay stuck in flying mode when I TP; packet loss would also stop me TP'ing. I know that Avs drift when flying (so annoying!) but this was a constant , unstoppable rising. I HAVE NOT experienced this problem recently, but will keep LL advised. I don't see how the problem could be related to the type of Graphics Card. I shall keep on eye on attachments if this problem recurs and report as necessary. Thanks Dark; let's keep this issue focused.
Resolving as "Cannot Reproduce" per original reporter. If it happens again, if you possibly can, make a video – sometimes the "feel" of what it looks like when your avatar is behaving undesirably can help give clues to the problem (e.g., like how bad region crossing has an "elastic, rubberband" feel). I have the same problem..just cant stop flying MAC OSX tried the 2 new viewers Wind and regular no control up down or stop flying just keep going across regons
I am having this same problem Mac OSX New viewer wind and regular just cant stop flying no control 1,18,5 (3)
I have the rubber banding problem as well as when I TP somewhere i'm stuck in the 'falling' pose until I move. Also i randomly go into the falling pose and it doesn't stop until I move, but then returns.
I have noticed that it could be a glitch with the "Flight Feather". When in the falling pose, flailing about, I detached the flight feather and immediately fell to the ground (only a few inches or so) and went back to my normal standing pose. Detaching and reattaching the flight feather seems to have fixed the problem. Although when previously I detached all via the inventory folder and "replace outfit" it starts again. Detaching/reattaching only the flight feather, not the entire folder, works to remove the falling pose problem. I logged out and logged back in and the falling pose problem is gone. Hmm. I expect the random rubber banding to be gone, too. hey i have the same problem, but it's not limited only to flying. When i walk toward certain areas, my avatar will continue to move regardless of my attempts to stop him, eventually walking into the ocean where he is disconnected from the region. It would make sense that this would be a region limited problem because whenever i attempt to leave a region, whether it be by walking or flying, my avatar will not stop. Hope to resolve this problem.
-Rdarenbe p.s. I'm currently running a MacBook Pro version 10.5.2 I'm having the same problem as Rdarenbe. After about a minute (or less) of moving around, regardless of whether I am walking or flying, I suddenly can't stop moving until I log out and log back in again. For some reason, when I'm stuck in this mode, I move through solid objects.
I'm using the Linux client 1.19.1.4. I can't even log in because of this. I was flying around with Flight Feather attached when, suddenly, everything just locked up. My avatar kept gaining altitude until I was forced to just quit and try to log in again. I received an error saying I was being logged out and to wait a few minutes. So I did. When it gave me the error again, the time had been increased. So I waited. And it did it again; and again, and again, and again. I went to sleep and hoped everything would be fixed in the morning. It wasn't. So my account can't be logged out because, what, I flew too high? Great.
Update - I have not had the problem recently; however some other users above seem to be experiencing it.
Again, I emphasise that the problem is not everyday rubberbanding (Av contiues walking or flying in a particular direction due to poor connectivity between SL client and SL Sim, which is usually due to packet loss or delays in the Internet). I sometimes use flight assisters (Flight feather) and movelocks, (Multitool) either of which might be relevant; unfortunately I do not recall whether I was using either when the problem arose. I have changed my graphics card to an nVidia product but I do not believe that is why I no longer experience the problem. I am stuck in flying also and can not do anything but transport from region to another. Flying mode is turned off and am still stuck in mid-air. This did seem to happen after I received "Free Shapes from Sexy"
Montana, please try right-clicking on yourself and selecting Take Off > Detach All to remove your attachments. Then, try relogging. Scripted attachments have the ability to affect your avatar's movement. If you think your issue may be related to a specific Body Shape please change to a default Shape from your Inventory Library to see if this resolves your issue.
Please try unplugging your modems and routers for a full minute, then plug them back in and log back into Second Life. Please see these articles in Knowledge Base How can I improve performance ?
This article will show you how to get detailed information about the performance of your computer and the Second Life world Statistics Bar Guide If this is still an issue please Submit a Ticket with Support Thank you : ) |
