Note to Open Sourcers: If you pick an issue from here to work on, leave a short note in that issue there, saying something like looking into it/working on it/etc.

I'd like to start this meta issue to collect links (relate-to) for bugs or improvements which lend themselves to be solved by open source programmers.

Link issues here if they are (at least in the ballpark)

  • purely client side (viewer, not sim related)
  • affect a specific function of the client
  • likely to be solved within a short amount of time
  • ideally easy to reproduce and easy to test for results
  • not already having a patch attached

Examples for such issues (except that they are already solved) would be VWR-605, VWR-1147, VWR-1470, VWR-1471, VWR-1534 (just to give you an idea what kind of issues we are looking for here).

The idea is to have a collection of issues for new open source developers to start with (or where oldbies can look for something to do on a rainy Sunday).

Ideally the linking would be done by people who are programmers (not necessarily SL open sourcers) because they most likely will be able to assess what it will take to solve a specific problem.

Should we add links to the "Relates to" as you have done with some already?

Also you do mean for Residents to do this, right?

Just clarifying so I don't bork something up. I think this is a great idea.

On a sub-topic related to this, I was thinking of starting a blog to keep track of important/new Jira issues. Keeping track of ones that would be easy for Open Source developers to handle would be a great idea to do as well. Do you think you'd be interested in helping with that?

Nicholaz Beresford added a comment - 07/Jul/07 08:11 AM

Oz, yes it was meant for everybody to add links here as they come across them. I'm currently not spending much time on JIRA, but had this idea for a while, so I'm counting on others to add stuff here. The initial links were just sort of a welcome to get the idea going.

Regarding the blog, my viewer is currently eating all my time, so I'm not having much resources for such a project.

Sounds good! I've added a few, they are mostly features, but I believe they would be rather trivial to implement.

Can't wait to see what comes from this.

This was posted to MISC but seems to be a VWR - UI issue after all

VWR-1230 and VWR-1647 are already having patches

Sweet! Great initiative, Nicholaz. I was reminded of this while reading the SLDev-Traffic 20 summary, and just wanted to say thank-you.

Thanks Torley high five

All: Btw, VWR-1567 also has a patch.

"VWR-1880 Modify "Ctrl-F" to call Search/Replace Dialog when invoked inside Script Window" should be a nice one if anyone feels bored.

VWR-1880 done (I think)

A nice and easy one linked: VWR-1952

Maybe whoever did the recent confirm Quit option may be interested in taking a look at this Relog option as well.

VWR-1999 is also a nice one.

And MISC-82 seems to have been renamed to VWR-2072 (just for info)

Added: VWR-1331 = Client-side bug/feature-request
Added: VWR-173 = Client-side performance enhancement. Potentially a fairly easy problem to solve, if not please remove the link again (and comment regarding why it is non-trivial).

Added: VWR-3234 = An open-source project I'm hoping to embark on soon which will seek to improve performance and future development work.

Added: VWR-1071 = Should be fairly simple but very handy for people with alts. I might do this myself but I have yet to find the right files and am very pressed for time, so if someone else wants to jump in then be my guest, could be a few weeks before I have a chance!
