After a little bit of back and forth with the support ticket about this which didn't tell me anything I didn't know already and in part actually made things worse (that's another topic though), Data Linden confirmed this is what is going on.

The client will stop loading the inventory before finishing and will not try again because of packet loss.

(there is already an entry in the internal jira, I did ask Data to post on here too but got no reply so I'm posting it myself to let people know this bug exist, perhaps someone on the outside of the firewall can figure out how to fix this on the client side before the Ls roll out the fix)

Because of this bug, several thousand (somtimes more than 10k) randomly picked items in my inventory never show. I've had difficulties finding things that aren't gone from my inv server side. I've had to fight with redoing changes because the more recent version of somthing I was working on wouldn't load. Please someone get this fixed fast o.o

TigroSpottystripes, when you have this issue, please close the Viewer.
  • Log into Second Life Region Aqua or Pooley
  • force your Inventory to load by typing anything random into Inventory Search
  • wait 10 minutes, then close the Viewer again

Please add a comment on the approx. number of items you should have in your Inventory and how many loaded in the 10 minutes.

Thank you : )

Neither Amber LInden nor Data Linden asked for the log, and they are fully aware of what is going on, Amber herself experienced the problem when she unexpectedly took over my account for testing if I was telling the truth (I was). I don't think posting the log here would make much difference now.

As I mentioned in the issue description, I've already went to the tech support before coming here.

As for the approximate item count, I should have MORE than 31 THOUSAND items. I know this because a few times the item count did go past that, and I have NOT deleted anything from my inventory since the last time I saw such a high item count.

Please provide details of:
  • your full environment, from Help, About Second Life
  • your connection type/speed
  • your "Maximum Bandwith" setting (Edit, Preferences, Network tab)
  • does changing the value of Maximum Bandwidth have any effect on this problem?

Davy, have you talked with Data Linden? From what they said I was under the impression both Amber Linden and Data Linden could repro it on their side, so I would expect that the info about my own system wouldn't be important

reopening since the Linden that asked for more info didn't comment on my response to the info request
