When I upgraded to SLV 1.23 i have seemed to be dogged with problem of severe lagg.

During June shortly after 1.23 I upgraded to it and from that day I have suffered from extreme lagg. In the beginning I thought it was my DSL connection as at the same time we had a cable break in the area, so I did not suspect that the cause was here with SL.
I got the telephone company to come out a few times and was told each time that the linne was clear, I also know it was not my ISP as I use 2 different companies who connect to the rest of the world using 2 different undersea cables.
I then contacted support and we tried various different options, like a pathping to establish if it where the fault could be and I had very little packet loose between my modem and the LL severs.
I usually connect using WiFi here at home so I tried running SL using a network cable and the response was the same. I also tried running SL using a different internet connection, my normal connection is a 384K this 1 was a 512K still I was suffering from lagg.
It was also recomended that I check to see if I have the latest graphics driver which I updated.
Finally it was suggested that I downgrade to SLV 1.22 which I did and fortunately the lag was a thing of the past.
It was also suggested that I possibly get a faster connection, that unfortunately is not financially possible here as internet is still very expensive here in South Africa.
Another suggestion was that I purchase a faster graphics card, that for me is not an option at all. As firstly the cost of hardware here is very expensive, I may as well go out and purchase a new laptop.

I do understand that we all need to move forward and that Linden Labs are constantly upgrading, I am all for that. But developers do also need to realise that we cannot just go to the shops and purchase new hardware all the time whenever an upgrade is done.
Today I upgraded back to SLV 1.23 after the server updates and although I am not experiencing lagg the way I did before the server upgrades I am still suffering and I do expect the lagg to slowly creep up on me as time goes by.

I have gone to different regions like Aqua and removed every last item that is worn by me and attached to my HIUD but things do not improve in the slightest.
I also cannot emote at all in local chat only in IM.

My question is:-
1. Has anybody else here experienced problems with lagg after upgrading to SLV 1.23?
2. Is Linden Labs just going to continue upgrading without taking into account that not all of us can afford to simply go and purchaes new hardware?
3. In case they do not realise we are in a recession and if they continue to upgrade like that I am sure they will be loosing members. I will refer to an article published earlier this month titled "Worldwide IT spending to decline" http://mybroadband.co.za/news/Business/8678.html

I can remember, that Windlight was introduced to have faster graphics.
Actually if you use a non windlight viewer today - like 1.19 (e.g. Cool Viewer), you can see how tremendous fast that was.

Those days, I was able to run 2 clients with an Athlon 1.4 GHz and an old GForce.

Today I have a pretty neat MacBook Pro, dual core and much improved graphics - but graphics is freezing once a second and better do not dare to open a 2nd viewer (safe it is a 1.19).

I am not aware about differences between 1.22 and 1.23, though.
