Copy / Pasting text from chat log to Abuse Report loses colour / origen information (avatar/object as source)
The aim of this JIRA is to reduce confusion about the origin of the chat that appears in the local chat window, both when viewed and when copied and pasted.
When text from local chat is copied to a notecard or to an abuse report, the colour coding designed to distinguish between an avatar and an object talking is lost.
This has lead to the wrong people being punished when this information is pasted into an abuse report, as well as misunderstandings when people fail to understand the meaning of the colour.
A suggested fix is to add a text indication of the origin to the clipboard as the text is copied.
ie.
[time] MyPrim : This is what my prim says
when copied the text placed onto the clipboard is :
[time][object] MyPrim : This is what my prim says
The new field indicating an object / avatar will only be seen when copied and pasted so it will not effect any in-world communications being handled by scripts.
This is a new feature for the viewer and should be simple to apply as the colour coded information is saved based on the origin of that chat already.
A second change to the viewer to make things more clear at first glance can be achieved by adding an icon next to the text to indicate if it is an IM / Object / Avatar / etc.
A different icon for llOwnerSay & llInstantMessage should be used to llSay, llShout, & llWhisper. This way people know what Object chat is being heard by other people without having to learn all the colour coding. This will help to reduce confusion, as well as nerf those scripts that try to impersonate people!
The aim of this JIRA is to reduce confusion about the origin of the chat that appears in the local chat window, both when viewed and when copied and pasted.
