This happens in all new versions of SL. I can never see who is online on my friends list and their names always appear offline so I have to take the time to go through my friends' profiles in order for me to know if they are online or not, can this bug please be fixed forever?

Paris, please check for any network connection issues How do I check for packet loss (network lag)?

Please try restoring your default settings without reinstalling Second Life, by moving all of your existing settings files to a different, temporary directory.  Next time Second Life starts, it will create a new, default set of settings files.  Your settings files can be found in the following location:

On Windows Vista: C:\Users\<Your Username>\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife\user_settings
On Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings[YOUR USERNAME]\Application Data\SecondLife\user_settings
On Mac OSX: /Users/[YOUR USERNAME]/Library/Application Support/SecondLife/user_settings

If this still doesn't solve your problem, some bad cache files might be causing the issue.  Try Clearing out your Cache files.

If it is still an issue, please try completely uninstalling ALL Second Life Viewers and rebooting. Then download and install a new copy of the latest Viewer http://secondlife.com/support/downloads.php How do I fully uninstall and reinstall Second Life?
