 Description  « Hide
With some computers / video cards, the bottoms of fonts seem to be clipped off. See, for example, this screenshot.

There have been comments that this may be due to outdated drivers. (For new drivers, go to http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx under "ATI Radeon™ Video Card Drivers" -> "Individual Catalyst Components".)
People with ATI 2xxx and 3xxx AGP cards may need the following hotfix in order to install newer drivers properly: http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/CatalystAGPHotfix.aspx
(Dena, below, suggests trying the 8.8 hotfix drivers instead, available here for Windows XP 32-bit and linked from here for other OS's.)
If you try this, please comment about whether it helps.

If you're still seeing the same problem, please comment with information about your computer from "About Second Life", particularly your graphics card and driver version information.

This issue is intentionally made anew just for 1.23 because it appears that different hardware is encountering this now (i.e. my own Intel 945 used to get these symptoms in 1.22, but not anymore in 1.23.)

Hotfix for 9.6 driver fixed the text problem but gave a rendering issue that for me made sl unusable.
Searched and found 8.8 drivers here http://www2.ati.com/misc/hotfi...hotfix_xp32_67246.exe
seemed to fix the issue of text and more stable on sl for me.

Dena reports that using the newest drivers caused "spikes".

Text is barely legible, very badly rendered. This is affecting nVidia users too.

File v1-22-11.png is an example of how the viewer text should look. File v1-23-4.png is what the newest viewer 1.23.4 looks like on the same system.

Because the proprietary ATi drivers will no longer support my graphics card (ATI RV350 [Mobility Radeon 9600 M10]) and my linux distribution is deprecating the old driver versions, I was forced to switch to the open "radeon" drivers in the kernel. 3D acceleration seems to work fine, as does SL, except now the font glyphes are clipped:

Note that the glyphs are clipped from the top, so I'm unsure whether it's the same bug as the one described in this issue.

The issue is the same with Second Life 1.23.4 (123908), so I'm commenting here instead of creating a SNOW issue. With the old proprietary ATi driver, both SL versions were fine.

EDIT:

Same issue.

Previous viewers were fine but I have this issue with Second Life 1.23.4 - haven't had it with previous viewers. Also Cool viewer suffers same issue. And I think Emerald also (but not 100% sure as I have uninstalled). Have tried changing screen resolution as suggested elsewhere and updated drivers. Here is info:

CPU: AMD (Unknown model) (2094 MHz)
Memory: 3070 MB
OS Version: Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (Build 6001)
Graphics Card Vendor: ATI Technologies Inc.
Graphics Card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450

OpenGL Version: 2.1.7415 Release

I can certainly confirm that Emerald is affected by this as well.
