Markfife, please add some further information to this issue see  JIRA issue posting guidelines - To submit a bug

5. Describe the computer environment in which the problem occurred. Copy & Paste all your full computer environment, Help > About Second Life, including the Viewer you are using and the Region(s) where you have this issue. Please also include the Graphics Card driver version.

6. Enter a detailed description of the issue, and be sure to include:

 * Steps (1,2,3...) to reliably reproduce the bug-- How to make the bug happen. If you cannot identify the specific steps, describe what seems to lead to the bug. Try to make this as simple as possible while still being specific enough to reproduce the bug. Simpler reproductions make it easier to narrow down the causes.

 * OBSERVED results (what happens when the bug occurs)

 * EXPECTED results (what behavior you would have expected instead)

For technical, time-sensitive and/or Region/Account specific issues please Submit a Ticket with Support as per JIRA Home page They will be able to give you help and advice.

Thank you : )

When I right click on a friend to start an IM session the IM entry screen does not open. I can only text in the open Local Chat. This happened after I installed the update yesterday.

Markfife, please try resetting your Settings to default (Note that this will reset ALL of your settings, so you will receive popups, as if you had just installed Second Life for the first time) see this article in Knowledge Base http://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=4417&task=knowledge&questionID=3901]

To restore your default settings without reinstalling Second Life, move all of your existing settings files to a different, temporary directory. Next time Second Life starts, it will create a new, default set of settings files. Your settings files can be found in the following location:

  • On Windows: C:\Documents and Settings[YOUR USERNAME]\Application Data\SecondLife\user_settings
  • On Mac OSX: /Users/[YOUR USERNAME]/Library/Application Support/SecondLife/user_settings

If this still doesn't solve your problem, some bad cache files might be causing the issue. Try clearing out your cache files How do I clear my Second Life cache?, uninstalling Second Life and reinstalling How do I fully uninstall and reinstall Second Life?.

Please see these articles in Knowledge Base How can I improve performance ? and How do I check for packet loss (network lag)? Please also see this article for suggestions for Turning off WindLight rendering.

Make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card. Nvidia have recently released Version:185.85 Release Date: May 06, 2009

If you're using wireless networking, you should try troubleshooting with a direct wired connection; we allow, but do not support the use of wireless network connections.

This article will show you how to get detailed information about the performance of your computer and the Second Life world Statistics Bar Guide

*Please note System Requirements

Your computer must meet these REQUIREMENTS, or you may not be able to successfully participate in Second Life.

If this is still an issue please Submit a Ticket with Support for a response tailored to your individual situation see JIRA Home page
