 Description  « Hide
Avatar eyes are randomly turning to black. I make eye's in second life and usually get a message 10 times a day that goes like this i will copy and past an omit the persons name

Person: hi lucian, i bought a long time ago some of your eyes
Person: and something wrong today they don't work
Person: can you help me ?
Lucian Overlord: there all black
Person: yes
Person: black
Person: all
I have not figured out how to duplicate this as it has not happened to me but I have figured out how to fix it but it should be looked into
one way to fix it is to just go into appearence.
If this does not work the second way wich works 100% of the time so far is to put on a set of eyes that came with your avatar go into appearance select eyes make eye color and eye lightness each 50 hit ok put on eyes you have purchased all fixed.
please still look into this even though i have a work around for it i dont want to have to expalin this 100 times a day

Purchased, non Modifiable single copy eyes I had bought also went all black this week, at the same time as my nonMod Shape and possibly my Skin changed. This was on version immediately prior to 1.17.2, and happened when I was changing clothes; I was prompted to save as I exited Appearance and just assumed it was for tweaking a shirt; the dramatic change to my height shape and freaky all black-in-black eyes was very surprising. Thank you for work around, which fixed eyes. Shape I had a backup.

Cloud Bracken added a comment - 28/Jun/07 01:42 PM
Addendum: these were not eyes Lucian made, were Created by someone else.

I just had this happening to some no-mod eyes after I logged in today. Lucian's work around does make them slightly less dark, but doesn't solve it completely for me.

Torley Linden added a comment - 29/Jun/07 10:49 AM
Hopefully we can find a repro that causes these eyes to go black – got screenshots you can attach?

Also, what happens when you try Client menu > Character > Rebake Textures?

lucian overlord added a comment - 29/Jun/07 12:11 PM
rebake still left the eye's black as far as what i have been told since i can not make this happen i can only go on what has been told to me
and with my work around you might need to do some adjusting of the numbers for the desired effect

Added a screenshot.
Amazingly today the eyes that were black before are now fine again. Beats me ..

Be Holder added a comment - 03/Jul/07 01:59 AM
..and it happened again, this time with another pair of eyes. Both times it happened at login and both were no-copy/no-mod eyes.
I forgot when this first happened, rebaking didn't solve it. But this time, with the other pair, it did.

Dee Firefly added a comment - 21/Aug/07 12:34 PM
I see this too now and then, pretty much randomly, usually after a major change of avatar/clothes, rebaking solves it every time though I think. Sorry I can't provide any more detail but yes I am seeing it too.

Can anyone tell me the creator, eye name, location, etc so I can buy a copy of any of the eyes mentioned in this Jira?

lucian overlord added a comment - 08/Nov/07 08:31 AM
Alexa
I am the creator of the eyes on the original posting of this. I also provided a work around for this on this post as well. As of the last few updates i have not received any more reports of this happining

Happened to me today - following a teleport which left 90% of my attachments stuck up my ass - I also had black eyes - I had to detach items and rewear a pair of eyes to get rid of the black eyes - first time I have ever seen this happen.

kaylee lykin added a comment - 21/Nov/07 04:04 AM
This just happened to me yesterday as well. I crashed after a teleport, and SL had me locked out for about five minutes. After I finally came back, they were brown/blackish just as in the attached picture.

What I have tried so far without success:

  • Relogging
  • Rebaking textures
  • Switching eyes completely (Multiple pairs tried, they're all right, but when I put the ones that have the bug back, they have the same issue again).
  • Taking a new pair from the original box I got when purchased, but again, same issues.
  • Detach all clothes and attachments
  • Clearing cache and performing all of the above again.

I have an alt with the same identical eyes, and they are completely normal there.
Also, when switching eyes, for a short instant, they look right, just before the new pair of eyes is rezzed.
If I go into edit-appearance, they show up normal as well, but leaving edit-appearance mode immediately turns them brown/blackish again.

These eyes were copy, nomod, notrans by the way.

I'll try the above mentioned fix and see if that fixes anything or not.

kaylee lykin added a comment - 21/Nov/07 04:24 AM
Okay, the above mentioned fix did not work work for me first.
I then took yet another pair of eyes, set both the sliders for it in edit-appearance to 50, switched both skin and shape, did a texture rebake, then put on the eyes displaying the bug, rebaked textures again and now they are normal again.
I'm not sure which of those steps exactly did it to be honest.

If it would prove to be helpful to any of you Lindens I have a copy of Secondlife.log from just after fixing it ready.

I was badly ruthed on teleport on 24 December, wearing Gracile 'Foresight' Grey eyes. My eyes went black; I swapped them with system eyes from the Library, and those were visible, but the Graciles were not when I reselected them.

I purchased a brand-new set and two other shades of Gracile eyes, and once again the Foresight Greys were black, but Foresight Steel displayed correctly, as did Gracile's 'Illuminati' Steel. I have since logged off, cleared cache, had another avatar log into the same client and do same, logged back in - and that one set of Gracile eyes will not display normally.

Ctrl-Alt-R has has no effect. I went into Edit Appearance, where the eyes did indeed display correctly in the preview windows, but were black again on exit.

I believe the permissions are no-copy, no-mod, transfer.

I have this problem too, my fave eyes has been black for 3 days. Had this problem before, and it fixed itself after a while. Why is this bug closed? Count me in on the votes.

Still happening, no repro, though. In my case rebake fixed it.

Just happened to me after login, current 1.20 RC

Can anyone repro this is the latest Release Candidate 1.20.13?

Moira Seelowe added a comment - 05/Sep/08 09:16 AM
Just happened to me on Second Life 1.20.15 (92456) Jul 18 2008 10:58:42 (Second Life Release). I logged in and got the message your clothing is still loading.
=RaC= Sparkly Vilolet eyes
If I go into appearance they look normal. I have put on another pair of eyes, cleared cache with a restart, put the eyes back on and they are still black.
I have tried to create new eyes, set both settings to 50, saved. Then put back on broken eyes and they are still black.

I think I know the issue. under properties, Creator is (unknown). So I think when I got the message 'Clothing is still loading" it went to the asset server to retrieve the information and it could not.

Creator (unknown)

Joshua Philgarlic added a comment - 06/Sep/08 05:26 PM - edited
I can confirm this for 1.20.15 too. Some eyes I bought this week got black today. Other eyes work fine. Perhaps this may help: name is 'Real Eyes 2C Spotted12Large', creator is 2C Runo. Had the same problem with other eyes and creators in the past.

As Moira Seelowe mentioned: entering appearance they look normal, quitting appearance turns them black again.

Any chance folks who are seeing this are using multiple monitors? If yes, which monitor is SL running on?

Also, be sure to update your video card drivers from the manufacturer's web site.

1.21 RC1 is available for testing as well. Download here:

The bug still exists in Second Life 1.21.6 (99587) .

I discovered that it is possible to remove the black eyes by the following procedure (they may reappear though):

  • Edit appearance.
  • While in edit mode wear another pair of eyes.
  • While still in edit mode wear again the original pair of eyes.

Jade Self added a comment - 19/Feb/09 03:21 PM
This problem just presented itself, although I cannot seem to replicate now. I was in editing appearance at the time, trying on outfits (although not changing eyes) and eyes were normal, on leaving editing appearance they changed to the same as in the images and described above. I have worn these eyes for a year without issues, they are 'Expressive eyes blue 1 by Nany Merlin'.
• I first swapped the eyes, other eyes were ok, swapped back problem still existed.
• Re-entering editing appearance, the eyes looked as they should, leaving the were still faulty.
• I do have dual screen and as it happens moved the window to the other screen, this made no difference.
• Rebooted, relogged. No difference.
• Since I am using Release Candidate, I tried the live version no difference.
• Re-entered Release Candidate, Rebaked no difference.
• Entered edit appearance again, again looked ok, left edit appearance and problem still existed.
• Rebaked again and all back to normal.

And anyone else that has this problem please try the solution i proved earlier and see if this corrects the issue next time it happens.
re posting the work around solution i created originally.

one way to fix it is to just go into appearance.
If this does not work the second way which works 100% of the time so far is to put on a set of eyes that came with your avatar go into appearance select eyes make eye color and eye lightness each 50 hit OK put on eyes you have purchased all fixed.
it seems that for some reason the color sliders become incorrect .If anyone else in the future or anyone who has had this happen please see if you can remember if the color sliders where dead center, or if they where off. Maybe someone can see if there is a bug in the color sliders them self's that the client doesn't pick up.
