UPDATE: Resolved. The Intel drivers default to setting two compression methods (shown in the attached screenshot) to "forced". Sculpted prim textures shouldn't be compressed. Disabling S3TC and FXT1 compression (or just setting it to NOT be forced) in the Intel graphics settings will solve the problem. Check Pazako Karu's post for directions on how to get to this menu.

=== OLD INFO ===

For reasons unknown, Sculpted prims do not load their sculpted component on computers using an Intel 965-based graphics card. This leaves sculpted prims appearing as spheres of varying dimensions. No settings tweaks uncovered thus far (including disabling Object Occlusion) seem to be able to fix the issue.

Repro (if you really need one):

1. Buy an Intel 965 chipset graphics card
2. Install it in your computer
3. Install Second Life
4. Run Second Life

NOTE: This is a duplicate of VWR-12512, which cannot be re-opened (from "Needs More Info" status) due to having zero votes.

Felis, please check you have the latest graphics drivers by either going to your manufacturer's site or by checking in Knowledge Base How do I get the latest drivers for my graphics card? Intel have recently released Windows Vista* - version PV15.12.4.1666 (7.15.10.1666)

Please try the latest RC Viewer Second Life 1.23.4 (123523) Jun 9 2009 08:32:14 (Second Life Release Candidate) which can be downloaded from here Release Candidate Test Viewers

If you still have an issue, please add your full computer environment, Help > About Second Life [copy and paste], including the Second Life Viewer you are using and the Region(s) where you have this issue. Please also include the Graphics Card driver version you have and a screenshot of your issue.

Thank you : )

Hello Felis, I have the same graphics card in my system and have seen this multiple times, and I have found a way to finally reproduce it.

In the picture I provided 'Sculpty Solution.png' you should see the Texture Compression options, be sure they are Off, or not forced, whichever you have available. This is in the 3D graphics device settings, that you can get to by right clicking your desktop, clicking on Graphics Properties, 3D Settings, and then disabling the two noted areas. I'm not sure if this is a direct solution for you, but it is a reproducible problem on my machine. You must restart SecondLife to notice the change should it be loaded when you try this.

As soon as I spotted "S3TC Compression" in the screenshot you posted I kicked myself. Duh, of course. Compress an image with a lossy compression method and you might lose some important data.

Disabling the two options worked like a charm. Sculpties are visible on my friend's computer. (I don't currently own a computer using an Intel 965 graphics card)

I've taken the liberty of closing this as "Expected Behavior", because really, if you compress images that aren't supposed to be compressed crap like this is going to happen. At least now we know how to fix it.

Glad I could help, this should be put in the Troubleshooting of SecondLife somewhere, as this happened to me several times and I completely forgot that I had even made that change, my only hint was when I forced the textures to be 16bit in those same settings and was wondering why the quality looked less than 32bit
