Reference JIRA for hardware and driver configurations that cause one or more of the following when Second Life is run:
  • Cause the system to become unresponsive, such that a reboot is necessary
  • Cause Explorer (Windows) or X (Linux, Mac) to completely crash
  • Cause a Blue Screen of Death (Windows) or kernel panic (Linux, Mac)
  • Cause the system itself to reboot without warning
  • Cause severe data corruption or file system damage
  • Cause damage to physical hardware, system BIOS, or other severe problems

Some common problems to check prior to posting:

  • Validate your physical memory (eg, memtest86)
  • Verify that your system is not simply overheating
  • Verify your operating system is sane, and does not require reinstallation
  • Verify the issue is specifically related to graphics, hardware, or file system operations, as used by SL
  • Verify that your current issue is not already posted to this list or JIRA

If any of your problems fall into the latter category, please attempt to correct them prior to posting a JIRA entry.

Please note that this JIRA is for informational purposes only. While system crashes are a useful meta issue, and help residents understand the risks of running Second Life on specific brands of hardware and drivers, these issues may be unrelated to code in the Second Life viewer itself.

Additionally, please post any reports as separate JIRA entries.

Thanks for reading!
