 Description  « Hide
Each of the new 1.23RC versions has exhibited this behavior. On my system with an ATI Radeon X1300 card the indicated FPS in the console window is 25% to 50% of that we get from previous releases and alternate viewers (RLV, etc.). Tried upgrading graphics software for this card to latest from manufacturer and get same results.

Changing graphic settings in the Preferences (recommended settings chooses medium for this card as in previous releases) to low or higher complexity settings changes the FPS very little between these four settings. I've tried changing individual settings, windowed vs. full screen, hardware options, etc. and none have anything but the smallest effect on the FPS indicated in the console window. The Lag Meter also constantly indicates red since this issue is pushing FPS below 10FPS at all times.

Same release on an ATI X300 graphics card out performs the X1300 by 4 times indicated FPS and the X300 system seems to have similar performance as previous releases. This appears to be very specific to this card/chipset but not to the system since previous releases and other games are running fine with the previous (8.10 Radeon Catalyst) and current (9.3 Radeon Catalyst) drivers.

The indicated FPS definitely reflects the RC viewers nearly unusable graphics lag with agonizingly slow avatar movement and turning, animations, etc..

Let me also add that I've tried toggling on/off different windows (mini map etc.), HUD display, rendering features (shadows, environ etc.), changing to/from multiple threads... none of which give relief to this. Also fully removed and reinstalled the RC viewer without any relief.

It seems not much different with the final 1.23 release. My FPS has dropped 25 - 50% too. My card is an ATI X600.
Having tried about everything i don't know what's going on. I just returned to 1.22.11 to solve it.

my only defense has been to stay with SLim 1.22
vista compatibility modes made no difference of course.

Blackened, please check you have the latest graphics drivers by either going to your manufacturer's site or by checking in Knowledge Base How do I get the latest drivers for my graphics card?

ATI have recently released 10/22/2009 Catalyst 9.10

Thank you : )

updating has added.... instability... wonderful. When its not crashing its frame rates are unaffected. my best frame-rates with 1.23.x SL viewer or the current Emerald viewer never exceed 7 and are usually below 5 even in places that are 15fps with 1.22. adding 3 other avis even to a low lag environment reduces me to a slide-show. Running anything using the 1.23 core renders SL unusable. After uninstalling everything and reinstalling the latest catalyst and then 1.22 SLim, its almost as stable as it was before tampering and my frame-rates are back to what they were.
