 Description  « Hide
I'm reporting this issue per Sejong Linden's request. I'm not sure what is causing these issues.

I log into SL with any of my accounts, doesn't matter which one it is, and everything will be ok and normal. But usually within a few minutes to an hour or so, I will sometimes get a popup saying I have been disconnected from the server, no explanation of why. When I go to log back in, a LARGE majority of the SL functions no longer work. I can not view my groups, I can't send/receive any group IMs, no media sounds, only sounds I have are the default UI sounds (opening/closing windows) and the typing sound will be gone, I can't view the about land info, and any attempt to teleport to another sim will disconnect me from the server.

I have noticed that teleporting can cause the first initial crash, but that does not really matter, it only increases the chance.

I have tried to completely uninstall/reinstall SL many times.Even gone as far as going through my registry after an uninstall to remove any and all entries remotely close to being an SL related entry. Tried using alternate viewers such as RLV and Hippo and Kristen's SL clients ( this occurs on all clients including the default SL client). Also reinstalled Windows XP on several occassions. As well as get a new PC. The disconnects happened on the older pc as well, but I never lost any functions then. I have tried to turn off all programs through the windows task manager thinking it might be software related. If it is, I have no idea anymore. And I am at my wits end trying to figure this all out.

Even turning off my norton 360, disabling all gestures and detaching all attachment per Sejong Linden's suggestion does no good.

I am including a snapshot of what happens after a crash hoping to give a better idea of what is happening.

Please help, I REALLY love Second Life. I am disabled in rl and unable to get out easily, SL gives me some of the feels that I can't do or experience in RL, it gives me part of my life back and helps me with learning to meet and communicate with others which I have trouble with in RL. I do appreciate from the bottom of my heart all the hard work the Lindens put into making SL a great place. smiles

Peace - We have imported this issue into our internal bug-tracking system for further investigation. In the meantime, please try installing the latest 1.23 Release Candidate build (RC2) to see if your experience improves.

The download can be found at: http://secondlife.com/support/downloads.php#download-Testviewers

ok. I am not sure if this helps any. but i found some ways to work around this sort of. When i get disconnected and I log back in to find i have lost everything, if i log back out on my own and use the regular client to change the sim i log into, most of the time I get everything back. However that is a 50-50 chance that i will, but it is better then none. This happens on ALL clients including the the new RC 1.23 that i downloaded the other night. But if i tp back to the place i was first disconnected from, all options are unavailable still.

I'm not sure if this is the problem, but it is almost as if SL does not totally disconnect me from the region when i do get disconnected. even when i do log into another region. I have no idea, just a random thought that went through my head yesterday as I was going to desperate measures to go shopping in SL lol

I would try to TP, SL would disconnect me, then i would relog in typing in the name of the Sim in the login point. it would log me into the new sim with everything working, sometimes tp would work after that, sometimes not. but I seem to have no trouble with intersim teleporting, even with all functions gone.

Hope this helps and you can understand this. i know it sounds kind of garbled, I am just not good at explaining things very well. :-/

Peace, please see these articles in Knowledge Base How can I improve performance ? and How do I check for packet loss (network lag)? Please also see this article for suggestions for Turning off WindLight rendering.

Make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card. Nvidia have recently released Version:185.85 Release Date: May 06, 2009

If you're using wireless networking, you should try troubleshooting with a direct wired connection; we allow, but do not support the use of wireless network connections.

This article will show you how to get detailed information about the performance of your computer and the Second Life world Statistics Bar Guide

Please try the latest RC Viewer which can be downloaded from here Release Candidate Test Viewers

*Please note System Requirements

Your computer must meet these REQUIREMENTS, or you may not be able to successfully participate in Second Life.

Thank you : )

My friend just had the same problem this morning he fixed it sooo to fix it you need to do a fresh install of windows that is the fix.

i have done everything listed above AND even gone to a new motherboard and video card. and reinstalled windows on several occassions, but this problem persists no matter what i do. its almost as if once sl disconnects, it doesn't completely disconnect me from the grid or something. but if that was the case then only a reboot would fix that and it doesn't. the screen freezes and disconnects and whatnot have caused me to not to bother logging on half the time, which is sad cause i pay for another account and i have alot of friends and family on SL whom i miss alot and they miss me. But at this time, i have no idea what else to do since this doesn't happen in any other high lag or 3d environments that i do.
