 Description  « Hide
Group notices are timestamped in GMT now. For example I got a group notice about a Relay For Life event that was happening until Noon. Didn't specify what time zone because standard SL time is Pacific Time, everybody knows that. But the message was sent at 17:28:21 GMT on Saturday, May 9th. In other words this guy is going to be in a dunk tank and available for 16 hours, 31 minutes and 39 seconds? Not going to happen that way.

I know people have complained that standard time is Pacific Time instead of GMT, but if you really want to make that change, change SL time to GMT first, we need only one standard time to work with, not two. Dealing with all timestamps being shown in SL time and then GMT for group notices just makes life even more confusing than it was already.

Might also be better if we have the option to choose what time zone all times are displayed in, regarding timestamps and the time in the upper right corner, as well.

Second Life 1.23.2 (120719) May 18 2009 09:43:42 (Second Life Release Candidate)

The notice-stamp is still shown in GMT, and the group-window still shows the local date.
See screenshot "timestamps". This notice was sent the 20th of may, 16:24 PDT, local time-zone The Netherlands (GMT+2 at the moment).

I noticed this as well: I don't know when this started, but timestamps in group notices are now coming across in GMT. This is inconvenient, because when I check in sometimes I'll get a notice that says an event is happening "now," and I have to mentally convert the time to see when "now" is, or was. Was the notice sent five minutes ago (in which case the event is ongoing now) or five hours ago (in which case it's probably over).

Second Life Time is standard time for SL — use it. Either that, or convert Second Live to GMT. It doesn't make sense to ask non-US-Pacific Residents to have to track three timezones: Their own RL, SLT, and GMT.

Full disclosure: I live in California in RL and that means SLT is the same as local time for me. I'd have no objection if SL wanted to change to GMT or some other time zone. But SL needs to pick a standard time and stick with it, not have one for the world and another for group notices.

Would you like to know something odder? If you inspect an object just rezzed it will show your local time stamp, no matter the time stamp of the creator, no matter what time stamp SL is on.
That means, if it is created by me, in EST, and you are in Australia, it shows as being created the next day.
Odd, no?
