After i got the newest drivers for my video card, prims randomly started appearing as giant balls of spikes. it's now very rare for me not to have deformed prims on my screen.

Please try going into Preferences/Graphics/Hardware Settings and uncheck the box that says Enable openGL Vertex Buffer Objects. You may have to restart SL to have this take.

This will normally prevent this from happening in the future.
