As part of the adult content changes it has been stated that there will be a 'adult' keyword list. Anybody using keywords on this unpublished list will not have their keywords shown to unverified accounts. Unfortunately, this keyword list as compiled by residents testing the upcoming viewer which will implement these changes also has several words that have purely PG uses. Thus creators of content that have PG reasons for using these words will be negatively affected along with the adults.

Unfortunately, this is a massive disservice to all Second Life residents. Those residents who have a PG reason to search for these words will return no results if they are not verified, and if they are then because there is no way to search by context they will get the non-pg uses that they didn't want in the first place. Also, given the history of some words being excluded from search due to a banned word being part of the larger word, and no guarantee that this will be fixed in the final release, this list of words could affect large numbers of content creators and residents who have product that does not belong on the adult continent.

My suggestion on this is twofold.

1. Contextual based search - this needs to be implemented. Keyword exclusion alone will have many false positives for adult content needlessly, negatively impacting mature and pg businesses that rely on the non-adult uses of those keywords.

what that means to me - expand the options for parcel owners. Leave the description field, but add in a keyword field. That keyword field would be treated as meta tags for web pages, the end user does not see this, only the search engine. Once that is in place encourage landowners to populate the description field with an actual description. It allows for better context based off the owner's description of the land and still allows for the keywords that are popular.

additionally - add in a tab for parcel picks like the profiles have picks. This will allow for the search spider to see what other things the parcel owner feels like letting people know about (community shops, or where hair was purchased for the promos, or places to see that naughty furniture in use) and can be helpful in determining edge cases in the software.

2. Until such time as contextual search can be implemented the 'adult words' that have also purely pg uses need to be either allowed in all cases, or will need internal flags for further inspection if the parcel is not on adult land. And then those flags need to be investigated in a timely manner to make sure that the content truly is pg or mature and has a legitimate use.

SL is a community for adults. Everyone on the adult grid should be an adult and not have to have LL intervene to prevent them from being 'assaulted' by content they choose to expose themselves to. There is nothing wrong with SL's content and there never has been in my opinion.

If something absolutely HAS to be done, I would support making an area of the Mainland strictly for people who don't want any of that content to be viewed.

I am against a hamfisted keyword search and for a system that silently flags for review, ads that have certain keywords and a not mature rating, for human screening. The heuristic needs to be not an obvious one.

that way truly non-adult ads are not screened while adult ads are.

also, I believe that many people are doing the platform a disservice to insist that the whole platform be only for adults interested in sexual content. It is home to many communities, not just the sex oriented ones. I have proposed SVC-4181 to devise a content screening system that better meets the needs of those who have non-adult sims.

First, I must commend LL on their imaginative approach to adult content. Having a secret list of words up which to ban communication is, in my humble opinion, a stroke of pure genius. Since this secret (and arbitrary) list may or may not contain certain words, none of which anybody may know, I would like to add the word "accordion" to the list, and urge others to propose words which they believe no self-respecting adult would want to see on their their screen. Suggestions might be cum (as in "Cum spiritus sancti", a part of a catholic mass), sax (which could easily become a "codeword" for sex), and, of course, nest, which contains the same Indoeuropean root as the name for the maille oregon of porkreation (now, I am sure that will pass the keyword censors, of course).

Another approach might be as follows: since speech (and even some text, ojects, or pictures) can lead to blatantly sexual situations, I would propose than any sim allowing either speec, objects, pictures or text communication be immediately classified as mature.

Note to the Lindens: The above is to be considered a type of humour called irony. Please look the word up before acting on any of these suggestions.
