 Description  « Hide
Some textures are extremely slow to load, taking as long as 10-15 minutes. This appears to happen regardless of the region I'm in, or the number of textures being loaded. Also, when turning the avatar around, the viewer occasionally 'loses' or drops textures that had recently been loaded, forcing it to have to be re-loaded again. This problem does not occur in the 1.22.11 official release.

Edited to add:
Texture memory on system = 512MB dedicated DDR3 video memory
SL texture memory setting = 256MB

I have been noticing this issue as well. Some textures seem to take > 15 mins to load.

This is really fascinating behavior to watch if you are near a region border.. Peer into one region and allow it to load.. Then turn around and view a bland gray world.. allow that to load and turn around again.. and stop halfway so you are staring straight down the borderline. Nothing will load... Step into the neighboring region and suddenly everything loads as if you kicked a keystone out of a graphics dam.

It may be helpful to the LL Developers to add further details to this issue. Please see VWR-8503 dan linden added a comment - 06/Jan/09 06:57 PM
  • Make sure your Texture Memory is not set higher than 512 MB. Preferences > Graphics > Hardware Options > Texture Memory (MB)
  • Paste the information from the Help > About Second Life window.
  • Attach a screenshot (use Attach file over there on the left) that shows your texture console. To display the texture console, first toggle on the Advanced menu (ctrl-alt-shift-d), then toggle on the texture console, (ctrl-shift-3). In SL, click the Snapshot button, choose Save to hard drive, click ">> more", check "Show interface in snapshot", set format to PNG, and save it.

Thank you : )

I've added a screenshot showing texture console output, and clarified that SL is only set to use 256MB texture memory (out of system's dedicated 512MB). Also worth noting that this is the same configuration/setting as I'm using in viewer 1.22.11 with much better results.
