Added image with visual aides.
I experience this issue as well.
Second Life 1.18.6 (76886) Jan 3 2008 18:00:27 (Second Life WindLight) This issue was resolved as "Needs More Info" during our batch cleanup because it was set as affecting First Look: WindLight. On the Issue Tracker, we've noticed many duplicate issues and issues that lacked actionable info or were already fixed.
WindLight recently "graduated" from a "First Look" technology preview to Release Candidate status – nearing inclusion in the main viewer with your help! So, "First Look: WindLight" does not exist anymore. More info and how to download the RC viewer: http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/03/06/new-release-candidate-viewer-1191-rc0-available/ If you've verified that this issue is still a problem in the newest Release Candidate, here's what to do next: (1) Search the Issue Tracker to make sure it isn't a duplicate of an existing issue we know about. If it is, link it as a duplicate using the "Link this issue..." link on the left. You can learn more about searching by watching this video tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SAlXK5hSVMc (2) Reopen the issue and BE SURE to update the "Affects Version/s" to the correct one, most likely ONLY "1.19.1 Release Candidate". However, if this bug affects the main viewer (1.19.0 as of this writing), then DO NOT set it to an RC version. Only set it to 1.19.0 instead. Be as specific with versions as possible – there's generally no need to set multiple versions, as it tends to dilute and confuse where a bug originated. (3) Add any other relevant details that would help us fix it. We can't stress the importance of a "solid repro" enough – a reliable series of steps to make a bug happen reliably. (4) Come and attend our inworld bug triages, where you can meet with Linden Lab employees to look at, verify, and expedite bugs for fixing. More info @ http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Bug_triage Thank-you for helping us improve Second Life! Reopening – as noted Windlight "graduated" to RC status. This only currently happens in the RC.
Repro: This occurs anywhere there are underground prims and Linden grass. The fastest way to reproduce it is to rez a prim on land you have vegetation rights on,imbed it in the ground, then surround it with one or more of either "Grass - tall 1" or "Grass - tall 2."
And taken more pictures with heavier foliage. – 002 is the one taken in the standard client, 003 is taken in the 1.19.1(0)RC I personally have no idea what the tecnical issue is that causes this – I could speculate that it's a draw issue between the grass and the underlying "Windlight" water. Second Life 1.19.1 (0) Mar 5 2008 17:51:19 (Second Life Release Candidate) You are at 264886.4, 238091.8, 79.6 in Areumdeuli located at sim3551.agni.lindenlab.com (216.82.22.32:13004) CPU: Intel Core 2 Series Processor (2999 MHz) Possible this is another "special alpha' issue.
I updated the priority to Major because, until this is fixed, it's very difficult to use SL for commercial purposes.
It's the first thing potential clients notice because it's very distracting. "Hey, why can I see stuff through the plants?" I can't shoot any machinima or still shots, either, if there are grasses, which means most places. On my machine this has happened on every release of Windlight-enabled viewers. I'm running an eVGA (NVidia) 8800GTS and it's happened with the last two drivers and the current Beta. It happens regardless of driver settings. Definitely still a problem in RC 1.20 these images show prims on another sim through the grass. These were taken using Second Life 1.22.7 (108773) Jan 23 2009 19:27:16 (Second Life Release Candidate). I took one set with the prims in white and a set with the prims in purple to show the contrast and comparision. So this is still a problem. Or it cropped up again, not sure

It's a rendering problem.
Appears fixed in 1.23
