 Description  « Hide
1. I was doing routine updates to my system drivers including my video card and sound card.
2. After installing ATi Catalyst version 9.3 drivers for my video card, I re-downloaded and installed Second Life
BUG OBSERVED: After updating and installing Second Life, I found I could not launch the program.
3. I downloaded and installed the current release candidate viewer
BUG OBSERVED: The viewer started normally, but upon trying to log in, the viewer crashed again.

NOTES:

  • Prior to this problem, I have not had an issue starting or logging in to Second Life (unless it was the type of issue that everyone was having, or warranted an immediate patch)
  • Since the first problem I have been able to start both viewers with varying success but have NOT been able to fully log in without crash. The point at which the viewer crashes seems to be a random point between initial start up, and log in.
  • On attempted log in, the 'previous position' screenshot is glitchy.

-I have tried clearing cache and clearing all application data, I have also tried doing a clean install, neither of these have worked.

The latest drivers are not the right drivers if you are using Windows with OpenGL programs. Consult the Second Life forums for in-depth help about fixing this problem, and consider contacting your GPU's manufacturer to test their drivers to ensure proper OpenGL functionality prior to releasing them. The 7.11 drivers appear to be what you want according to VWR-4335, which this duplicates. Good luck!

Running a 4850 on Windows Vista. Definitely crashes when I turn on Advanced Catalyst AI, but no problem on Standard. Work around for now is don't turn on advanced, and we'll see if 1.23 clears up this issue.

I've notified ATI of the issue and it looks like 1.23 (unreleased) in it's current form may not fix it just yet. I've sent ATI the offending open gl call that crashes, and we'll see what they come back with. Till then, make sure Catalyst AI is set to Standard.

Talked to ATI. Looks like it was a problem in the driver of confusing accessing compressed textures vs. uncompressed textures and has been fixed internally by ATI, but probably will not go out by 9.3. 9.4 will most likely clear it up.

Comment from ATI: "Current update is that we will be aiming for having this fix to Catalyst 9.5."

Sorry for the wait.

Thank you : )
