Zenity, please see comments on these issues
and other links on the Meta-Issue 'Issues with ATI Catalyst 9.1/9.2' VWR-12080 There are a few suggested workarounds re the crashes, mostly involving setting the Catalyst to default settings. Re the textures issue, do you see anything similar to those already reported ? Your comments will help the LL Developers investigate these issues. Thank you : ) For technical, time-sensitive and/or Region/Account specific issues please Submit a Ticket with Support Gotcha! Yes, that was it. Enabled "Catalyst AI" here on 9.1 and both problems are back. I have no idea, what this feature does, but it's the key to the crash.
Zenity, thank you very much for your feedback : )
Please see the comments on VWR-12139

downgrading to SL 1.21 does not help; same for minimal graphics settings. BUT downgrading
the driver to the version from Ubuntu 8.10 helped - even though it also downgraded the performance to a pre-2000-PC
. The version in the repositories for Ubuntu 9.04 (Catalyst 9.1) works and gives a pretty decent performance.
