Those who've noticed this, please provide more details, or a repro. E.g., if you teleport a lot and friends IM you while teleporting, do they see IMs sent to you as going offline?
for some reason it only occurs when I'm in my home sim, and it doesn't seem to affect people in the same parcel with me. I'm apparently showing up on other people's friends lists, but they've been getting the user offline message when I'm in a different sim...
I've confirmed that this bug prevents me from getting IM's from anyone but those in the same sim as me.
correction, it only affects me when I'm in the sim Great Pubnico. the other places I've gone don't seem to affect this
This is happening a lot to me lately. I am offline to my friends and they're IM go directly to my e-mail. It's happenning around the grid; not only in one sim.
This happens to me all the time. Only repro I got is when I get IMs while TPing but has happened to me in lots of different sims.
happened to me after 4 IMs received while on RL holiday for 10 days (17-26 Sept 2007) the rest went to email. But there was also a high number of Group Notices, so that might have affected the count.
Mercia Ok this happened to me today - I am online, I can see my friend adn I assume he can see me, because he sent me an IM. Yet is went to email and nothing in my IM/Communicate area.
The night before last, two IMs from separate people, in the middle of a conversation were sent to email and not to my IM window. Different times of the day, I was in different sims on both occasions - first one at home on mainland, the second shopping somewhere (not sure where lol) hmm More information - while chatting to above friend, system logged him out for inactivity! Seems there is something odd in Presence-land????
I have been seeing this lately. Friday afternoon, I was in IM with multiple people. I was not doing anything inworld other than talking in IM at the time - no teleporting, sim crossing, etc. Was in a quiet, low-lag area (SLVEC).
I checked my email a little while later, and found 3 "offline" IM's from people. I had been online at the time those messages were sent. One of them, I was in active IM with. His was just one line of the conversation that went to my email instead of into my IM window. One of them, I had messaged and was waiting to hear back. Nothing ever came up in the window, but he had responded, and it went to email instead of to IM. One of them was someone trying to get ahold of me. I never got the IM, it just went to email. The messages weren't all from the same time, but they were within about a 20 minute time span. When I logged off and logged back on, later that night, the messages popped up in IM windows as though they had been sent when I was offline. I was able to use group chat successfully, as well as talk to other people in IM, at the time this happened. This problem has been happening as long as I can remember and is one of those you sort of learn to live with since no one is doing anything about it. The way I would describe it is that the person you're in IM with momentarily goes offline for all practical purposes. Maybe they briefly lose connection with the main server, not long enough to time out completely, but long enough for some critical component piece of software related to Instant Messaging to think so.
The bad thing about it is that sometimes that one sentence that goes offline is a critical piece of the conversation you're having and that not being said can make all the difference. Has happened to me numerous times. Other times, though, it can be funny when someone IM's you the next day wondering what that one fragment is about they've received from you, because it usually makes no sense out of context. I have never been able to narrow it down to a region or time of day or anything else. It appears completely random to me. I've had this happen once or twice. Ive also seen the system totally lose track of who is on line and who isn't. from my own experiences i've ntoiced it hapepns to happen more when one or both people are in high traffic sims that have major performace issues. Cola for example. thus, i am linking this to svc-2708 cause i think fixing some of the perfromance issues might fix this and vice versa.
ive had it happen a bunch of times yes when tping and yes when just standing there, heck ive had it before standing beside the person! lol I think a lot of it is jsut lag slips but im not too sure
This issue has happened to me probably around 4 times in the past 4-6 weeks. It happens cross-sim and even in the same sim, on the same parcel. Usually it's linked to 'Disconnected from In-World voice chat' message, preceded (not succeeded) by a 'Connected to In-World voice chat' message. The IMs will go to email, and sometimes it will claim that the user is offline... other times it will look like it sent even though it did not.
It's never happened to me before November 2008. This started happening to me after I went to Release Candidate 1.22 AND I was "ghosted", a condition from which I still suffer. It happens with IM's sent to me and if I am "listening" to a Group chat it will just stop, and at least one of my groups NEVER stops chatting. It happens grid wide.
I can't really help with how this happens or even why. I just know it's occuring when in a middle of a conversation the other party suddenly goes quiet and I start getting a flood of e-mails rather than messages in world. It is not something that occurs all of the time, but it does happen at least once a week and I have had it happen after being logged in for a while, as well as when I have just recently logged in. I do use only the RC viewer though, whichever the latest viewer is so that I can actually build (I had extreme issues with the "stable" viewer and had to switch or give up SL).
I just realised this bug, duplicate below
http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-12551 Please fix it, it's annoying! On group Tiny Empires 3000: [13:29] AquaWolf Xeno: Is anyone else having problems with SL 1.22.11? When I log off and log back on I get messages and notices from hours sometimes days before. That I never recieved when I was online This happens to me all the time, but only while in a TP . The sender does not get an offline note, but I get the IM via email, and then online when I log back in.
To clarify, for me, this only happens if an IM comes in at the moment I am TPing. This has been happening more so recently in fact the past 2-3 days i have been online in IM and parts of the conversation have been going to Email. SO i am having to check email as well as being in IM just incase i miss something important. Mine happens on Second Life 1.22.11 (113941) but not as yet on the PN
I am seeing this only on 1.23.1 Release Candidate.
I'm IM'ing with friends, usually multiple friends at a time (I multithread well Second Life 1.23.4 (123908) Jun 11 2009 15:16:56 (Second Life Release)
Release Notes Built with MSVC version 1400 You are at 227052.4, 220347.5, 21.8 in Horn located at sim33.agni.lindenlab.com (216.82.8.108:12035) CPU: Intel Core 2 Series Processor (1595 MHz) libcurl Version: libcurl/7.18.1 OpenSSL/0.9.8j zlib/1.2.3 This issue can be quite annoying when you need to have a seperate application running just to make sure you dont miss parts of a conversation. It is very consistent for me at this point. I was using the current SecondLife 1.23.xxx a few days ago and
saw this problem. Because of avatar loading issues for what I and others see (edit apparence doesn't fix it), I switched back to 1.22.11 on Windows XP. IMs sent during a teleport many times are not received, go to email and then when I log on again appear as At this point, if I am IMing to someone and I TP, I check my email. Sometimes I see them forever in "Typing " in the IM window. Hope this helps find this bug. This has been happening to me almost daily now. I will get a line from the end of an instant message conversation sent to my email as an offline. At first when I relogged, I was totally confused and would IM the person, of course getting the response "I said that to you when we were talking yesterday". Also, I'm not sure if it would go filed under this Jira but it seems to be happening with friendship requests also. I will see the request in my email but when I log on it never appears, and then I have to request friendship myself (If I want to that is
I have this problem but it only occurs when I'm in the process of teleporting, so thankfully it doesn't happen often.
I have been experiencing this EVERY time I log on since I upgraded (LOL) to 1.23.
I would say about half the time it occurs, SL will freeze from anywhere between 10 - 20 secs right before it happens. I can still hear music streams as well as any other sounds (gestures, sounds from objects, etc) while SL is frozen. I know this for a fact because the IM away messages are being forwarded to an email account I access from my blackberry. I recieve an email shortly after this happens if I was in the middle of an IM conversation. As for the other half of the time, no exact method. Sometimes it happens while Im in the process of teleporting, other times it doesnt. This is really annoying, it reminds me of a cellphone commercial here in the US: Female: Guess what Im pregnant! This has been happening very often for me. I'm not sure it's related to the freezes (which happen all the time lately) that Sco Jimenez spoke of. But it's definitely not TP related. I can be sitting at home after quite some time, thus having rezed everything so it's not lag, and i'm talking in IM, i see the person is typing message, but nothing arrives, i get it much later in my email and as an offline on my next log in. Also, besides the latest viewer, i use the cool viewer based on the pre windlight 1.19.0.5 viewer and it happens the same there.
This issue has been creeping up as described above) on me as well. Happens sporadically in all viewers (1.23.4 RLV Emerald) and os's (Win7, Vista, XP, Ubuntu)
EVERY day when i logon i get 2 or 3 residual IMs from the day before that were delivered "late". They are always from random points in a conversation.
Some of these IMs are critical ... on one occasion they caused a very unpleasant circumstance. This bug has been open for TWO YEARS. And Linden Labs still cannot get a basic feature such as instant messaging to work correctly????? Is this a joke???? Does ANYONE at LL know how to write code? Since this bug was opened we have had voice (poorly done), windlight (yawn) and now lipsync! .... BUT WE STILL DONT HAVE RELIABLE MESSAGING. Incredible. I don't understand much about computer lingo....but it happens all the time. Sometimes i will IM someone and it says they're offline, but then they will answer back. I have one friend who it will not show online. We've tried deleteing each other from friends list but it still always shows him as offline to me..but i appear online to him.
Also i recieved a IM from someone who had logged off a few hours earlier, It was obviously sent hours earlier as it was part of our conversation from earlier. |
