I know there's another ticket out there like this one, but it's still unresolved since October.

When I go to my map screen, and click the "Friends Online" drop-down box, I just get a blank box - no list of friends that are online. It's been happening since I switched over to the Release Candidate about two months ago (to fix the NVIDIA card bug; I'd really rather not switch back to mainrelease due to that).

Last night, I tried something with a few friends - they deselect-reselected the "Show On Map" rights for me on their Friends list, and now I'm able to see them via the Map -> Friends Online function. Friends who have this enabled but haven't uncheck-rechecked it lately still aren't visible to me.

A simple fix would be to mass IM my friends and ask them to reassign me map rights, but, what I'm wondering is--
-Is anyone else having this bug?
-What caused it?
-Is there any other fix?

Thanks in advance.

Blau, please try restoring your default settings.

To do this without reinstalling Second Life, move all of your existing settings files to a different, temporary directory. Next time Second Life starts, it will create a new, default set of settings files. Your settings files can be found in the following location:

Vista: C:\Users\<Your Username>\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife\user_settings

Log off of Second Life
rename the settings_releasecandidate.xml file to old_settings_releasecandidate.xml
Log back on to Second Life

If this still doesn't solve your problem, try clearing out your cache files How do I clear my Second Life cache?

Please also see this article for uninstalling and reinstalling the Second Life Viewer How do I fully uninstall and reinstall Second Life?

Thank you : )

I tried the first two-- they didn't seem to work.

Attempted uninstall-reinstalling; however, when I went to delete the files out of my Temp folder, the Explorer window crashed and I couldn't do much...
I did uninstall/reinstall the viewer, though. I don't think that worked, either.

I'll comment again later, when more of my friends get on – that way I can see if the people who did the temporary fix the other day are still visible.

Forgot to reopen it last night. x.X

I don't think that this got fixed-- I commented on it last night on why.

How are you connected to the internet? DSL. Wireless?

Connected through DSL, wired directly to my modem/router.
