It is not possible to retrieve it in Japanese in "Places".

All and Classifieds and Group can retrieve it in Japanese.

1. Enter a japanese search string (eg. 日本語 ) into Search > Places
OBSERVE: It is not possible to retrieve results. "None found."

2. Try this same string in
Search > All (web based)
Search > Classifieds (viewer based)
Search > Groups (web based)
OBSERVE & EXPECTED: some search results are retrieved.

Ok can you provide a bit of a repo? IE.. search for "" works on Classifieds and Groups but "" doesn't work in Places?

This is a Japanese word (or UTF-8 multi-byte word) problem.

[Example]

日本語 (nihongo. Please look at the Screen Shot.)

this problem also happens on windows.
i noticed this issue long ago, but it was difficult to find an existing jira for it. the japanese profile page is utf-8 so there is no reason it can't be displayed. all web pages generated/displayed for the new search should be utf-8.
