Paula, please add (copy and paste) your full computer environment from Help > About Second Life and include the Viewer you are using and the Region(s) where you have this issue.
Please see these articles in Knowledge Base How can I improve performance ? Please makes sure you have the latest Graphics Card drivers from Sapphire Technology Before you restart Second Life, please attach your latest SecondLife log and CrashReport to this issue. This Knowledge Base article will tell you Where do I find my Second Life diagnostic logs? Please also attach your Traceroute (WinMTR) report to this issue. For account-specific help please post a Ticket with Support Thank you : ) Here is the information you requested.
Second Life 1.21.6 (99587) Oct 14 2008 17:42:25 (Second Life Release) CPU: Intel Pentium 4 Northwood (2593 MHz) libcurl Version: libcurl/7.16.4 OpenSSL/0.9.7c zlib/1.2.3 There's no certain region that is really worse than another. It affects all regions, not simply just one or two here and there. I might add though that second life viewer lets me run ultra mode in ati catalyst 7.10 just fine but, only problem is I get artifacts. That's simply unacceptable to have triangle textures in the middle of my viewpoint. Hope this information helps. Ok I have one more thing to mention, now I'm using 7.11 drivers and I will show my differences in the ogl driver. THIS IS SERIOUS ISSUE PLEASE GET THIS FIXED ASAP!!!
Second Life 1.21.6 (99587) Oct 14 2008 17:42:25 (Second Life Release) CPU: Intel Pentium 4 Northwood (2593 MHz) libcurl Version: libcurl/7.16.4 OpenSSL/0.9.7c zlib/1.2.3 See the difference from my previous post. Second Life is behind on technology. I can no longer run my games that require the previous ogl driver. I will not compromise just for second life. GET THIS UPDATED PLEASE!!! IT IS CRITICAL!! NEW OGL VERSION: OpenGL Version 2.1.8395 - In ATI Catalyst 7.12 - 9.1 This is an obvious issue all your techs should be on this before 1.22 even comes to release. This is why half of us can't play it's opengl issue. Get up too date! I am not sure what you want a trace route for. I am just fine here and have tested my connections. Second Life runs fine under catalyst 7.11. I also have normal on lag meter down the line under these drivers. My problem is these are old drivers. Second Life should run perfectly fine on the new ones. Now I can't run my other games, get a popup stating game is too old.
Just a thought. hmmm, should be looked into. Popup stating driver too old, sorry excuse my error.
Low FPS confirmed with latest Catalyst 9.3 (incl. OpenGL 2.1.8543) and HD4870 with SL 1.22.11.0. Pretty powerful card that can compensate partly, still performs about 1/3 slower than a much slower NVidia 8600GT. And there is no option to use Catalyst 7.11 as 4800 series of cards is only supported from v8.7 onwards. Pretty much a showstopper for ATI users.
The same happens in all currently working viewer versions 1.18-1.23. All render just fine with nVidia graphics (8600GT). CPU: AMD (Unknown model) (2800 MHz) libcurl Version: libcurl/7.16.4 OpenSSL/0.9.7c zlib/1.2.3 I'm confirming this as a Driver issue on ALL ATI cards, The Catalyst 9.3 drivers have the same problem on HD 2900XT and all HD 2000 series cards.
By the way Catalyst 9.1 has full implementation of OpenGL 3.0 and does not exhibit this issue. I'm not sure what changed between Cat 9.1 and 9.3 but obviously it's something ATI has to fix. Second Life 1.22.11 (113941) Mar 6 2009 12:50:02 (Second Life Release) You are at 255971.9, 318435.3, 21.8 in Spiritual Reboot located at sim3113.agni.lindenlab.com (216.82.20.102:12035) CPU: AMD (Unknown model) (2507 MHz) libcurl Version: libcurl/7.16.4 OpenSSL/0.9.7c zlib/1.2.3 Well problem solved, i got an nvidia geforce 7950 gt, so I don't care anymore. ATI SUX!!!! Do yourself a favor buy nvidia!
Don't care since I no longer run ATI, they make crap drivers and crap cards all there is too it, i should have never gone away from nvidia.
Ok keep it open. I just could not take the problems anymore. It's just too much. It's totally night and day difference between Nvidia and ATI. I will never own an ATI again. AMD needs to quit making garbage drivers for them or just quit the ATI line all together. I mean no excuse for it. All my games run better too now. I just hope for everyone who is having problems that LL fix but I seriously have doubts. It's been like forever and they keep crapping out. I could wait no longer. I hate poor performance. TG for my nvidia. I'm happy finally.
Well guess I'm gonna be posting again about this issue again unfortunately. Seems the nvidia card I bought doesnt stand up to my ati radeon in games. Not too much I can do since I'm on agp. My options are limited. So, yes I agree Boy Lane, this should not be closed. Too many ppl using ati cards and not enough being done about the issues. Linden's you need to be working on this problem. It's been going on since catalyst 7.12, how long do we have to wait for a solution from you? I was too hasty in my response there after getting my nvidia card.
I have to add my Computer not to this Problem... I recently updated from the 9.3 driver to 9.4, because it addressed the issue of teh card not using any texture memory... I have included a few screen shots showing the blotchy triangles and squares that are nowt appearing in the 2.33 RC 0 the Public client will not even start. Here is the System details... going to roll back to 9.3 and see if that corrects it
Second Life 1.23.0 (118378) Apr 24 2009 14:24:08 (Second Life Release Candidate) Built with MSVC version 1400 You are at 285291.4, 269726.4, 44.2 in Earpoint located at sim4584.agni.lindenlab.com (216.82.54.234:13001) CPU: Intel Pentium III/Pentium III Xeon (0.25 micron process) with external L2 cache (2997 MHz) libcurl Version: libcurl/7.18.1 OpenSSL/0.9.8j zlib/1.2.3 UPDATE: Downgrading to Version 9.3 did NOT Fix the problem... I can now load the public viewer release, but I still get the crazy triangles... I did compleatly remove all drivers and rebooted. Then Installed 9.3, which seemed to work before. One thing I did discover is that if I go to hardware settings Under Graphics, and Disable OpenGL,. The problems seems to stop. Of course this is a big performance sacrifice for SL. But My PS C4 now seems to be working much better. ATI Is a Big Player Lindens, I really think this needs to have some effort put into it. I would welcome the opportunity to work directly with a Viewer engineer to resolve this, I am already working with the 1.23. RC0 viewer... It would be nice to see a few more useful updates & modifications. Per Soft Linden during triage...
Same with Catalyst 9.5 now and 1.23 RC2 on both Radeon HD4670 and integrated HD3200 on laptop. Affects XP32, Vista32, Vista64, Win7/32 Win7/64 and even Ubuntu Linux!!!!!! Only workaround is disabling VBO and taking the performance hit.
Note that with FBO needed for the experiemental shadow viewers it also appears to suffer badly ... if shadows do get implemented eventually, the performance hit will be so great as to make ATI unusable in future. I reported this to AMD/ATI about a dozen times.. but they are too myopic to see the elephant in the room: SL and ATI just won't get along too well on any platform until either AMD or Linden budge on their OpenGL implementation. Sad for both.. the HD 4xxx series is fast becoming the gamers choice and SL has > 1.4 million accounts registered - how can either throw away that market intersection in the present economic climate? I just installed the ATI 9.5 (previously using 9.3) drivers today and everything went baloney. I have never had this problem with any previous drivers or SL viewers.
At first I thought some kind person had left a dozen multi coloured megaprims in the region but as I tried to cam around I realised my frame rate was abysmal, and the polygons decided to go for a wander all over the place (like in the screen shots posted above), I couldn't tell what was what. I tried setting everything to minimum hoping it would help but it was exactly the same. I assume anyone trying to use the 9.5 drivers will have the same problem. This needs fixing quickly. So much for regularly updating drivers ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Second Life 1.23.2 (120719) May 18 2009 09:43:42 (Second Life Release Candidate) Built with MSVC version 1400 You are at 258789.5, 261110.3, 102.5 in Celerio located at sim5746.agni.lindenlab.com (216.82.51.48:12035) CPU: AMD (Phenom2 X4) (3209 MHz) libcurl Version: libcurl/7.18.1 OpenSSL/0.9.8j zlib/1.2.3 On X1600 with Catalyst 9.2 and 1.23 RC, I haven't had any problem of randomly flickering large triangles like with 1.22. The viewer runs with anti-aliasing on and no way to turn it off (VWR-13822), though.
System information follows. Second Life 1.23.2 (120719) May 18 2009 09:43:42 (Second Life Release Candidate) Built with MSVC version 1400 CPU: AMD (Unknown model) (1852 MHz) As a few other people have said disabling VBO does fix the problem immediately. Turning it back on causes the problem to come back immediately.
Luckily I don't take that much of a performance hit, so I can live with it until the problem is fixed. http://my.opera.com/boylane/blog/
Try this viewer instead; I never had any serious glitches with my ATI card, but I did see some improvement when I switched, as she's added some things to fix the things ATI borked. (I've got a mobility HD3650, using catalyst 9.3) Updated yet again to include Catalyst 9.6 and viewer 1.23.4 - sigh.. looks like no one at Linden or AMD/ATI are listening to either this Jira or VWR-4335.
The dread triangles are back again with VBO switched on too (which is still the default!!!!). I find that even with Boy Lane additions to Henri's Cool(SL)Viewer, VBO still needs to be switched off to benefit. There is some performance gain(as well as lots of useful features ). How much of this is down to her SSE2 optimisations and how much of it is OpenGL tweaking I don't know. I hope she continues to develop this for the post- v1.23 era because Linden and AMD just seem to be fixing things that aren't broken these days Yes, this is a very serious problem. I saw a 1-3 fps on the ATI 4870 with 1 GB of memory. I made many changes to the settings in the ATI driver and SL, but none of them could improve performance. #$%.
I am very upset about performance of graphic card on sl ...... I have ATi 4800 series 1GB memory and my fps are very low according to my graphic card ,what should be ...... think Lindens should look in to this , cause I can see I am not the only one with this problem ....and make note that not only G Force graphic card are used for sl .....
I am seeing the same very poor performance with a 1GB 4870. The GPU utilization is so low that it doesn't look like SL is even using the card. The only setting that affects the framerate is the draw distance and AA over 8x. VBO must be unchecked to eliminate massive artifacts. My CPU is a Phenom 9600, no core is over 60% usage, most cores are ~20%. 4GB of RAM, but rarely use more than 1GB. No noticable HD activity. I'm on a sim with 10 people total, and only getting 3.5FPS. And this is normal.
Having the same problems here. ATI 4870 1GB. GPU utilization is low, not CPU bottlenecked (running 4.1Ghz Core i7).
Major graphic distortion. Please fix this LL. I have also just recently updated drivers (today) for my ATI 4870 and had the same issue. After looking around and fiddling found the following to fix the issue. In game, go to Edit -> Preferences -> Graphics -> click "Hardware Options" and then un-tick Enable OpenGL Vertex Buffer Objects an press ok. Fixed it for me instantly.
Setting Catalyst AI to "advanced" in the Catalyst Control Center will cause the optimizations to be applied to all textures, even sculpties. It will cause lots of graphical distortion and will compress the sculpty textures, making them look like they haven't rezzed in all the way.
Upgrade Drivers to 9.7, they have fixed the graphical glitch with VBO enabled and have also fixed log in problems with using advanced catalyst AI
