Linden Lab Issue ID: DEV-30254

 Description  « Hide
Oblong sculpts load much more slowly than conventional, 32x32 sculpts. One oblong can take 2-3 minutes to load.

It could be possible that the root cause of this bug is that lossless images of higher jpg2000 file size load much more slowly than expected (IE, a 5kb image loading several times slower than a 4kb one of the same pixel count.)

If need be, a set of test examples of different oblongs and normal sculpts with varying file sizes can be made to establish the root cause of this bug.

For internal reference: Sample object/texture at AssetID 69c4c755-9e64-8e62-b5f5-a420df596957 – Soft

Hi Aminom - This issue looks like a duplicate of VWR-8723. Please take a look at that issue and, if you agree, please resolve it. Thanks!

This is not a duplicate of VWR-8723. VWR-8723 does not relate to loading times, but to the displaying of sculpts; the process that checks whether or not a sculpt should be rendered as a sculpt or a "bad sculpt sphere) functions incorrectly or too harshly with oblong sculpts.
This issue deals with the way lossless image data for sculpts is downloaded, and not how they are displayed. The issue is this: lossless sculpt images of a higher file size than others for a given pixel count will load disproportionately slower than they should.
The issue is broader than just oblongs, it's just that oblongs are more strongly affected because they tend to have higher file sizes for a given pixel count because jpg2000 lossless compression is more efficient on square or near-square images.

some of my customers complain that 512 high, 8 wide sculpts load slower than 8 high, 512 wide sculpts.

I don't know if it's total nonsense, being millisecond picky, or a real phenomenon. Anyhow I didn't bother trying duplicating it myself.
