This was reported in VWR-8503 and needs more specific details. If you see this bug, please add a comment with the following info.
  • Make sure your Texture Memory is not set higher than 512 MB. Preferences > Graphics > Hardware Options > Texture Memory (MB)
  • Please include the information from the Help > About Second Life window.
  • Please include a screenshot (.PNG format please) that shows your texture console. To display the texture console, first toggle on the Advanced menu (ctrl-alt-shift-d), then toggle on the texture console, (ctrl-shift-3). IN SL, click the Snapshot button, choose Save to hard drive, click ">> more", check "Show interface in snapshot", set format to PNG, and save it.

If possible put your cursor over the stuck texture when taking the picture. This will cause that texture to appear orange in the texture console. If you save one snapshot to disk, you can save a second snapshot to disk by hitting ctrl-`

I don't have a specific repro, but I've noticed this behavior for some time now as well. I just assumed it was another feature that had been removed for load balancing or some such, but I'll try to keep an eye out for a particularly obvious case of this happening and snap a pic. I really miss this feature, especially while shopping.

I noticed some trees whose textures never loaded - see stuck_texture.png

After logging off, and back on, WITHOUT clearing cache, textures loaded correctly - see tree_after_relog.png

NOTE: black prim added, because viewing textures console against snowy background is a PIG

Several hours later, I log on again, at the same position.
Now on Second Life 1.22.6 (107579) Jan 11 2009 18:40:39 (Second Life Public Nightly)

Parts of the same trees are again not loading - stuck_again.png (previosly, the lower texture was not loading fully; now it's the top texture)

NOTE: The "Area" numbers change rapidly, seemingly-randomly for some time, before settling on a value.

Location of this tree: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Ciel/75/179/44

There are two textures that take minutes to load for me after clearing cache:

1d607b04-97cb-fb51-97e2-078ab13978d4
b489cfdf-b5f9-9a4a-b8aa-83aa30bc1920

The second one is always slower.
Pointing, zooming or interacting doesn't make a difference.

Added snapshot of my stuck textures (stuck_textures_jacek.jpg). There are three textures (four if you count the plywood on the unseen back faces) applied to the cube:
  • Left: 256x512 image. Gets "stuck" at the halfway mark. UUID: d14ac87a-929e-7858-416b-68dac9878904
  • Top: Re-uploaded version of the same image. Also gets stuck halfway. UUID: 084a0c32-f89c-000e-fd35-7270ca86bba0
  • Right: Larger (512x1024) version of the image. Loads quickly, doesn't get stuck. UUID: 77b9b8b8-d92d-9489-8619-f54ca42d2420

Watching the "[download]" bars on the texture console, the two smaller images load quickly up to the halfway point, then pause. Every 15 seconds, like clockwork, they receive another packet – a white square appears then fades out in the "Pkt" column, and the [download] bar fills up a tiny bit more, like a bucket being filled up one drop at a time. Eventually (after 10+ minutes) they get filled up all the way and "pop" to the fully rezzed state.

The large image doesn't get stuck, so it actually loads much more quickly than the smaller images.

Clicking or selecting the prim, zooming in, or opening the texture from inventory have no effect on the speed of loading.

If I clear cache and relog, they get stuck in the same way while downloading again. If I relog while they are partially downloaded, they are still stuck. If I wait for them to fully download, then relog without clearing the cache, they rez quickly (loaded from cache).

This issue affects both the standard viewer (using KDU) and Imprudence (using OpenJPEG). It also affects the 1.22.6 (107493) public nightly, despite the partial fix to VWR-8503.

Another day, same fuzzy textures on the same trees.

Second Life 1.22.6 (107579) Jan 11 2009 18:40:39 (Second Life Public Nightly)

This time, right clicking the trees shows NO details in the texture console
(In case it's relevant, I've been here for almost an hour)

Selecting the "Texture" radio button shows "Loading..." in the Edit floater / texture tab, but stil no textures are shown on the texture console - see Loading.png

This suggests a different problem from the one shown in Moon/Jacek's scrrenshots.

Thanks for spotting that guys! We're tracking the new '"BAD" textures on 1.22.6 Public Nightly stall texture loading' bug over at VWR-11550.

Let's keep this bug for tracking texture stalls in 1.21.6.

Seems to be working much better with 1.22.6.107949, textures complete loading for me finally, but it did not help for a bunch of "sculpties", they just sticked to sphere shape (not all, though), but some forever, they got loaded finally after a relog. Clicking them etc. did not help at all.

Seems the 1.22.6.107949 improved texture loading (except for sculpties) a lot.

Using the 1.22.6 (107949) viewer, the same two textures load slowly after clearing cache.
